Mary

Mary is timid, calm and generally friendly with the people around her. She appears comfortable sharing meals with Rem and the young twins but becomes visibly uncomfortable when another crew member ignores her personal boundaries.

She does not reciprocate the romantic attention directed at her with any obvious enthusiasm. When Rowan expresses his feelings, Mary initially has difficulty believing that he is serious.

Mary is an ordinary human without supernatural abilities or established combat skills.

As an active member of Project SEEDS, she belongs to the small waking crew responsible for the enormous colony fleet carrying humanity through space. The anime does not identify a specific technical specialty for her.

Mary appears in the 1998 anime's Project SEEDS flashbacks, particularly "Rem Saverem." Her presence helps establish everyday life among the adults who surround Vash and Knives during their childhood.

She is also involved in a small interpersonal subplot among the crew. Steve makes unwanted advances toward her, while Rowan is genuinely romantically interested in her.

Mary's ordinary life aboard the ship is abruptly overtaken by the catastrophe that sends the SEEDS fleet toward No Man's Land.
