Revy

Revy is aggressive, cynical and extremely short-tempered. She has little patience for hesitation or idealism and is accustomed to solving immediate problems with threats or gunfire. Money is one of her most openly expressed motivations, and she reacts badly when a job places valuable cargo at risk for reasons she considers sentimental or foolish.

Her worldview is rooted in a childhood shaped by poverty, crime and abuse. Revy places little faith in institutions, religion or conventional morality, regarding power and the ability to survive as more reliable than promises about justice. Conversations with Rock repeatedly expose this divide. His continued belief that people can choose something better irritates her partly because it challenges conclusions she has built her life around.

Despite presenting herself as emotionally detached, Revy forms strong attachments. She is protective of the Lagoon crew and becomes particularly invested in Rock's safety and choices, even while insulting or threatening him. She dislikes discussing her past and becomes defensive when others push into subjects she considers private.

Revy is an exceptional marksman whose reputation in Roanapur rests on speed, accuracy and the ability to fight effectively while moving. She specializes in dual-wielding customized stainless-steel Beretta 92F pistols, engraved with markings including "Sword Cutlass," and can engage multiple armed opponents in rapid succession.

Her fighting style is highly mobile. Revy shoots accurately while running, jumping, falling or fighting from moving vehicles and boats, and she is comfortable engaging enemies at both close and moderate range. She has enough practical combat experience to improvise under fire rather than depending on carefully prepared plans.

Revy is also physically capable beyond her marksmanship. She can brawl at close range, withstand considerable punishment and operate effectively in dangerous maritime environments. Her greatest strength, however, remains her combination of reflexes, aggression and firearms proficiency, which makes her the Lagoon Company's default combat specialist.

Revy participates in the kidnapping of Rock after the Lagoon Company seizes a data disc he is transporting for Asahi Heavy Industries. She initially treats him primarily as a hostage and potential source of ransom money, but the situation changes after his employer chooses to sacrifice him rather than risk exposure.

Rock subsequently joins the Lagoon Company, creating a partnership between two people with radically different backgrounds. Revy introduces him to Roanapur's violence while Rock increasingly becomes the negotiator and strategist who can accomplish things the company's guns cannot. Their arguments over morality, survival and the choices available to people in Roanapur become a recurring part of their lives.

Revy remains the company's frontline fighter through conflicts involving Hotel Moscow, the Rip-Off Church, the Lovelace family and numerous criminal organizations. During the Japan operation, her relationship with Rock becomes increasingly complicated as she watches him navigate the boundary between his former life and the criminal world he has chosen.

During the later Lovelace conflict, Revy again acts as Rock's primary combat partner while his increasingly elaborate planning places him in a different kind of danger. Rock's willingness to manipulate several factions in pursuit of his desired outcome unsettles Revy, who recognizes that the former salaryman she once considered too innocent for Roanapur is becoming increasingly comfortable using the city's methods.

Rokuro Okajima is Revy's closest partner within the Lagoon Company and the person who most consistently challenges her worldview. Their relationship begins with Revy treating Rokuro Okajima as a hostage, but develops into mutual trust despite frequent arguments. She protects him in combat, while his refusal to accept all of her cynical assumptions repeatedly forces her to confront ideas she would rather dismiss.

Dutch is Revy's employer and the leader of the Lagoon Company. Revy respects Dutch's authority and combat experience, although her impulsiveness can create situations he then has to manage.

Benny is Revy's longtime teammate. Revy helped Benny when he was being pursued by the FBI and mafia, after which he joined the Lagoon Company and became its technical specialist.

Balalaika maintains a professional relationship with the Lagoon Company and frequently employs its services. Revy respects Balalaika's power and is unusually careful about provoking her compared with many other people in Roanapur.

Eda is Revy's friend and occasional partner from the Rip-Off Church. The two frequently tease and antagonize each other but work effectively together in a firefight.

Roberta becomes one of Revy's most dangerous opponents during the Lagoon Company's involvement with the Lovelace family. Their confrontations pit two exceptionally violent and determined fighters against one another.
