Eda

Eda is brash, teasing and quick to argue, particularly with Revy. Their friendship includes insults, drinking, gambling and occasional armed confrontations when business puts them on opposing sides. She enjoys provoking Revy about Rock and is rarely intimidated by her friend's temper.

She is commercially minded and treats the Rip-Off Church's illegal business with professional seriousness beneath its deliberately irreverent presentation. Eda understands Roanapur's criminal networks well and is often more observant than her loud behavior suggests.

Her apparent identity as merely a corrupt nun is a cover. Eda is actually a CIA operative working undercover in Roanapur, and much of her seemingly casual interest in local affairs is connected to American intelligence objectives.

Eda is an experienced gunfighter, typically using a handgun and demonstrating enough accuracy and composure to fight beside Revy against groups of armed opponents. She is comfortable with both direct firefights and the criminal negotiations surrounding the Rip-Off Church.

Her more important skills involve intelligence work. As a CIA operative, Eda is trained to maintain a long-term cover identity, gather information and influence events without exposing the organization behind her. Her position inside the Rip-Off Church gives her direct access to Roanapur's arms trade and criminal networks.

Eda is also skilled at reading people. She can switch quickly between her deliberately vulgar "nun" persona and a much colder professional demeanor when circumstances require it.

Eda first appears through the Rip-Off Church, where the Lagoon Company comes to purchase weapons. The negotiation rapidly becomes hostile, establishing both the church's willingness to use violence and Eda's existing familiarity with Revy.

She later fights alongside Revy during the Greenback Jane affair. When Greenback Jane becomes the target of numerous bounty hunters, Eda helps defend her and participates directly in the chaotic escape from Roanapur.

The story gradually reveals that Eda's presence in Roanapur serves a larger purpose than smuggling. Her CIA affiliation places her in a position to observe regional political activity while maintaining the appearance of an ordinary member of the city's criminal ecosystem.

During the pursuit of Roberta, Eda covertly manipulates information surrounding the American military operation, protecting U.S. interests while continuing to conceal her intelligence role from most of the people around her.

Revy is Eda's closest established friend in Roanapur. The two insult each other constantly and sometimes point weapons at one another, but Eda is also one of the people with whom Revy is most personally open.

Yolanda runs the Rip-Off Church and is Eda's superior within its smuggling operation. Eda works under Yolanda's authority while maintaining her own contacts and responsibilities.

Rokuro Okajima frequently becomes the subject of Eda's teasing toward Revy. Eda openly flirts with Rokuro Okajima, partly because she enjoys provoking her friend.

Greenback Jane receives Eda's protection during the bounty hunt surrounding her counterfeiting operation. Eda fights beside Revy to keep Greenback Jane alive long enough to escape.
