Momiji Ooka

Momiji is confident, competitive and accustomed to the privileges of an extremely wealthy household. She makes no attempt to conceal her interest in Heiji Hattori, routinely referring to him as her future husband and treating Kazuha Toyama as a rival.

Her romantic confidence stems from a childhood encounter with Heiji that she interprets as a promise of marriage. This leaves her genuinely convinced that she is pursuing an existing commitment rather than simply trying to take Heiji away from Kazuha.

Momiji is also perceptive and intellectually capable. She can put aside her romantic theatrics when faced with a mystery and has solved tricks from small auditory clues before the detectives physically present at the scene reached the same conclusion.

Momiji is an elite Hyakunin Isshu karuta player. Competitive karuta demands rapid recognition of poems, exceptional memory, reflexes and the ability to identify a card from the earliest possible sounds of a recitation, all areas in which she excels.

Those listening skills contribute directly to her deductive ability. During a case communicated through Muga Iori, she recognizes the solution from sounds transmitted over the phone and sends Iori a Hyakunin Isshu clue that helps Conan Edogawa, Heiji Hattori and Toru Amuro reach the answer.

She also has extensive resources through the Ooka family. Cars, aircraft, staff and Iori's assistance allow her to act on information much faster than an ordinary high-school student could.

Momiji is introduced during the case surrounding Shinichi Kudo's school trip and soon becomes a recurring figure in Heiji and Kazuha's romantic storyline. Her childhood history with Heiji creates a new complication whenever he tries to confess his feelings to Kazuha.

The Crimson Love Letter expands her role through competitive karuta and establishes her connection to the former Nagoro-kai and its founder, Shikao Nagoro. She competes directly with Kazuha while the surrounding case intertwines karuta, old rivalries and murder.

Momiji also participates indirectly in investigations through Iori. In The Million-dollar Pentagram, she travels to Hakodate and again becomes involved in Heiji's affairs. Her attempt to observe Heiji and Kazuha from the Ooka helicopter inadvertently interferes with Heiji's confession when one of the flash bombs being deployed to assist Conan explodes near the couple.

Heiji Hattori is Momiji's childhood acquaintance and romantic interest. Momiji Ooka believes a childhood exchange with Heiji Hattori amounted to a marriage promise and therefore calls him her future husband.

Kazuha Toyama is Momiji's principal romantic rival. Despite competing openly for Heiji Hattori, Momiji Ooka is capable of interacting civilly with Kazuha Toyama outside their rivalry.

Muga Iori is Momiji's personal butler and trusted adviser. Muga Iori handles her arrangements, relays information during investigations and supports her efforts concerning Heiji Hattori.

Soushi Okita attends Kyoto Senshin High School with Momiji and is familiar with her and her interest in Heiji.

Conan Edogawa encounters Momiji through Heiji and several investigations. Momiji's deductions occasionally provide Conan Edogawa with useful information even when she is not physically present at the crime scene.
