Soushi Okita

Okita is relaxed, confident and frequently casual even when preparing for important matches. He has enough faith in his abilities to sleep between rounds of a tournament rather than anxiously watching his potential opponents.

His casual demeanor does not mean that he lacks competitive drive. He enjoys facing opponents who can genuinely challenge him, and his encounters with Heiji Hattori quickly develop into a rivalry based on their respective swordsmanship.

Okita can also be blunt in conversation. He is comfortable teasing the people around him and lacks the restraint that Heiji sometimes wishes he would show, particularly around Kazuha Toyama.

Okita is an exceptional kendo practitioner whose speed, reflexes and sword technique place him among the strongest teenage fighters in the series. His family has trained him extensively, continuing a sword tradition associated with his historical ancestor.

He is capable of competing evenly with Heiji, himself a highly skilled kendoka. Their tournament encounter demonstrates that Okita can exploit minute openings during an exchange and maintain his technique against an aggressive opponent.

His abilities originate in Yaiba, where his swordsmanship is explored more extensively. Within Detective Conan, he remains a grounded but exceptionally talented martial artist rather than possessing supernatural powers.

Okita first appears in Detective Conan through Heiji's recollection of a kendo opponent who closely resembles Shinichi Kudo. He later appears directly during the high-school kendo tournament, where Heiji is determined to defeat him.

Their competition becomes entangled with a murder investigation, forcing Heiji to divide his attention between solving the case and reaching his anticipated match with Okita.

In The Million-dollar Pentagram, Okita travels to Hakodate for another kendo tournament. He later joins the confrontation at Goryokaku after Heiji calls for assistance, fighting alongside Takeshi Onimaru against Brian Kadokura's armed group.

Heiji Hattori is Okita's principal kendo rival in Detective Conan. Their matches are intensely competitive, but Soushi Okita generally treats the rivalry more casually than Heiji does.

Momiji Ooka attends Kyoto Senshin High School with Okita. The two are familiar enough to speak casually with each other.

Kazuha Toyama meets Okita through Heiji. Okita's resemblance to Shinichi Kudo and his interactions with Kazuha Toyama have occasionally irritated Heiji.

Moroha Kurogane is the younger sister of Yaiba Kurogane. Okita carries her photograph inside a protective charm and has romantic feelings for her.
