Megumi Hanajima

Megumi is quiet, composed and deeply loyal to his sister. He shares Saki's preference for black clothing because the color makes him feel calm, but his resemblance to her is also partly intentional: he does not want her to feel isolated for being different.

He has a dry, understated manner and rarely needs to raise his voice to intimidate someone. His calmness becomes particularly effective against people who already expect something supernatural from the Hanajima household.

Beneath that eerie presentation, Megumi is a supportive younger brother. His interest in curses begins from empathy rather than malice.

Megumi studies curses and claims to have learned how to place them on people. The exact supernatural reality of this ability is left uncertain, and he is not shown clearly inflicting a curse in the manner his claims might suggest.

He demonstrates an uncanny ability to identify the names of people he has apparently never met. Whether this is genuinely supernatural or part of his cultivated mystique is not definitively explained.

Unlike Saki's wave sensitivity, Megumi's abilities are not explored extensively enough to establish precise rules or limitations.

Megumi receives his most prominent early appearance when members of the Prince Yuki Fan Club visit the Hanajima home hoping to discover Saki's weakness. Instead of finding leverage against her, they encounter an entire family that accepts Saki's strangeness.

Megumi calmly undermines the visitors by apparently knowing their names and discussing curses. More importantly, he questions whether their obsessive interference in Yuki's life can genuinely be called love.

His presence reinforces the importance of Saki's home life: after suffering rejection outside the family, she has parents and a younger brother who refuse to treat her abilities as something shameful.

Saki Hanajima is Megumi's older sister and the person who most strongly motivates his interest in curses. He deliberately embraces his own strangeness so Saki Hanajima will not feel alone.

Tooru Honda is one of Saki's closest friends and is welcomed by the Hanajima family.

Motoko Minagawa, Minami Kinoshita and Mio Yamagishi encounter Megumi when the Prince Yuki Fan Club visits his home. His calm discussion of curses and inexplicable knowledge of their names thoroughly unsettles them.
