Makoto Tomonari

Makoto is anxious, persistent, and deeply affected by the unresolved circumstances surrounding his father's final investigation. His secretive behavior reflects fear and distrust rather than an ability to handle the dangerous situation confidently.

He is willing to investigate independently when he believes official explanations are incomplete, even though doing so places him in circumstances he is poorly equipped to confront.

Makoto has no specialized combat or investigative training established in the film. His investigation relies primarily on persistence, observation, and information gathered about his father's old case.

He carries a knife for self-protection after becoming frightened that he may himself be targeted, a decision that inadvertently makes him appear more suspicious.

Makoto becomes a suspect after police officers associated with his father's old investigation are attacked. He behaves secretively and later appears at Tropical Land disguised in a mascot costume while Ran Mouri is being protected from the killer.

Makoto is arrested after a knife is discovered in his possession, but he explains that he wanted to contact Kogorou because he feared for his own life and carried the weapon only for protection. His account is verified, clearing him of the attacks.

The actual murderer is Kyosuke Kazato, who is eliminating people connected to the investigation of Tamotsu Jinno's death.
