Koto

Koto is energetic, professional and enthusiastic about her work. She can maintain commentary even while supernatural attacks destroy sections of the arena around her.

She enjoys exciting combat and sometimes reacts to violent exchanges with unsettling enthusiasm, but she is not indifferent to genuinely helpless victims. When a fighter is no longer capable of defending themselves, Koto attempts to enforce the rules rather than simply encouraging further brutality.

Her professionalism also includes extensive knowledge of tournament regulations. She frequently explains technical rulings and tries to maintain order despite interference from organizers, sponsors and fighters.

Koto possesses the enhanced physical traits expected of a demon, but she is not established as a significant combatant.

Her most impressive practical skill is her ability to remain near battles involving powerful demons without abandoning her responsibilities. She displays good reflexes and repeatedly avoids attacks, explosions and other hazards affecting the tournament ring.

Koto also has the tournament rules memorized and can make rapid decisions regarding ring-outs, incapacitation and ten-count victories.

Koto serves as the primary referee and announcer during the earlier stages of the Dark Tournament. She officiates several of Team Urameshi's matches, including encounters with Team Rokuyukai and Team Masho.

Her position repeatedly puts her in danger. She must retreat from the arena during especially destructive attacks, including Hiei's Dragon of the Darkness Flame.

After the controversial circumstances surrounding later matches, Juri becomes the primary referee while Koto continues as a commentator.

Koto returns during the Demon World Tournament, again providing commentary as demons from across the realm compete under Yusuke's new tournament system.

Juri becomes Koto's fellow tournament official and takes over many of her refereeing responsibilities while Koto concentrates on commentary.

Yusuke Urameshi is one of the fighters whose matches Koto frequently officiates during the Dark Tournament.

Hiei forces Koto to retreat from the ring when the scale of his Dragon of the Darkness Flame makes remaining nearby unsafe.

Kurama attracts Koto's attention during his tournament appearances, particularly in his Yoko form.

Chuu behaves flirtatiously toward Koto during the Dark Tournament, without receiving equivalent romantic interest from her.

Touya is later the subject of a playful implication that Koto has developed an interest in him.
