Juri

Juri is energetic and generally enthusiastic about her role, but she has a much more visible sense of self-preservation than Koto. When attacks threaten the referee as readily as the competitors, she is willing to flee the ring rather than pretend she is unaffected.

She nevertheless takes her responsibilities seriously. Juri watches for knockdowns, ring-outs and other conditions that determine tournament results, even though enforcing those rules can be difficult when contestants possess enough power to destroy the arena around her.

Her reactions also provide a relatively ordinary perspective on the tournament's escalating violence. While experienced with demon combat, she can still be frightened or disgusted by particularly gruesome outcomes.

Juri is a demon, but she is not presented as an important combatant. Her physical abilities are sufficient to function around supernatural fighters, though she avoids direct confrontations whenever possible.

Her principal expertise is officiating. She follows the action closely enough to make rapid rulings and remains alert to the conditions governing a victory even during complicated supernatural battles.

She also demonstrates considerable agility simply by surviving her position in and around the tournament ring, repeatedly moving away from attacks whose area of effect extends beyond the fighters themselves.

Juri appears during the later stages of the Dark Tournament after Koto is reassigned from refereeing to commentary. She becomes the official inside the ring and presides over numerous matches involving Team Urameshi.

Her position places her directly in the path of attacks from fighters such as Shishiwakamaru, Hiei and members of Team Toguro. The increasing scale of the battles repeatedly tests how closely normal tournament rules can be applied.

After the Dark Tournament, the manga later groups Juri with Koto and Ruka as the popular "Cult Trio," who find success as television personalities in the Human World.

Koto is Juri's fellow Dark Tournament official. Koto shifts to commentary while Juri assumes the primary refereeing role during the later rounds.

Ruka is another Dark Tournament staff member. In the manga, Juri, Koto and Ruka later form the popular entertainment group known as the Cult Trio.

Suzuki is revealed in the manga to be the fighter on whom Juri has developed a crush.
