Personality
Personality
Keigo is introverted, self-conscious, opinionated, and inclined to hide insecurity behind cultivated tastes. He presents himself as a subculture expert and can launch into long explanations of films, music, trends, and other interests whether or not his audience shares his enthusiasm. His friends frequently tease him for trying too hard to appear sophisticated.
He has a persistent tendency to underestimate himself. Keigo often compares his ordinary personality unfavorably with the supernatural strength available to him and assumes that his own skills are less useful than those of the other familiars. This insecurity contributes to his constant search for new hobbies and identities.
Despite the self-absorption that accompanies some of his interests, Keigo is empathetic. He notices when other people feel inadequate because he recognizes the same feeling in himself, particularly in Nemu. His background as a serious athlete also leaves him with a strong sense of fairness; he becomes uncomfortable with achievements he believes may have been gained through an unnatural advantage.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Keigo is descended from werewolves. His supernatural nature manifests through Wolf, an alternate personality and transformed state triggered by seeing a crescent-shaped object. Wolf possesses substantially greater strength, speed, agility, senses, and tracking ability than Keigo's ordinary form.
Wolf's personality differs sharply from Keigo's. Where Keigo is introspective and insecure, Wolf is aggressive, confident, territorial, and blunt. The two are nevertheless aspects of the same person rather than unrelated beings, and their coexistence becomes an important part of Keigo's attempts to understand himself.
Keigo's years of figure skating give his ordinary body excellent balance, coordination, and movement instincts. When Nico later gives him access to an unstable Float spell, he adapts its difficult movement by treating aerial motion like skating, creating a combat style that lets Keigo contribute through his own learned skills rather than depending entirely on Wolf.
His creativity also extends beyond combat. Keigo makes videos and games and has considerable technical ability, although his tendency to prioritize his own niche tastes can make the results difficult for other people to appreciate.
Story Role
Story Role
Keigo initially appears as an eccentric classmate whose obsession with subculture seems unrelated to Nico's supernatural problems. His history as a figure skater and the accident that ended his career gradually reveal a more troubled background.
Keigo is exposed as the human identity connected to Wolf and as an accomplice of the warlock Ayako Makinose. He accepts her offer because she claims she can provide medicine capable of healing his mother's paralysis, which resulted from the accident associated with his werewolf transformation. The promised cure is ultimately fraudulent.
After the conflict, Keigo is accepted rather than rejected by Nico's group. He becomes one of her familiars and moves into the Otogi household, where his quieter personality contrasts with Kanshi's extroversion and Morihito's rigid responsibility.
Keigo's later development increasingly concerns establishing worth separate from Wolf. Rather than treating his transformed personality as the only useful half of himself, he begins applying his own intelligence, skating experience, creativity, and magical assistance to problems.
Relationships
Relationships
Nico Wakatsuki begins as Keigo's classmate and later becomes the witch he serves as a familiar. Although he initially helps a warlock target her, Nico accepts him afterward and gives him the opportunity to become part of her household.
Morihito Otogi is Keigo's classmate, housemate, and fellow familiar. Morihito recognizes Keigo's competence and points out that Keigo habitually undervalues himself.
Kanshi Kazamatsuri frequently pulls Keigo into social activities and dubious projects. Their personalities differ, but they work well together and have even attempted comedy as a pair.
Wolf is Keigo's werewolf personality. The two differ dramatically in temperament and frequently disagree, but Wolf makes clear that he has never regarded Keigo as weak, while Keigo gradually stops treating Wolf merely as the superior version of himself.
Nemu Miyao develops a particularly close connection with Keigo. Both struggle with feelings of inadequacy, and Keigo supports her when she discusses her insecurities. Keigo eventually develops romantic feelings for her and becomes conscious that Wolf also cares for her, creating an unusual rivalry between his two personalities.
Ayako Makinose manipulates Keigo by promising a cure for his mother's condition. Her promise proves false, leaving Keigo to confront the harm caused by accepting her bargain.
Miharu Kiryu and Ban later become fellow residents of the same supernatural household and trusted companions.
