Kazuo Kuwabara

Kuwabara is reckless, arrogant and extremely sexually aggressive during Gantz missions. He shares the Osaka veterans' casual attitude toward lethal danger and treats the hunts as opportunities for stimulation rather than situations to escape as quickly as possible.

His sexual behavior is frequently abusive and grotesque, extending even to alien targets. Anzu Yamasaki describes him as someone whose sexual impulses override ordinary restraint.

Outside Gantz, however, he works as an English teacher and is shown to be well regarded by his students. This suggests a substantial division between the persona he presents in ordinary society and the behavior he permits himself inside the game.

Kuwabara is an experienced hunter who has survived enough missions to reach the 100-point threshold three separate times. That experience gives him familiarity with Gantz weapons, the enhanced suit and the tactics needed to survive unusually dangerous targets.

He is physically strong and capable of fighting alongside other elite Osaka hunters. Against powerful opponents, he can combine attacks with teammates rather than relying entirely on individual aggression.

His greatest weakness is his recklessness. Kuwabara's impulses can override his survival instincts even when he understands that an opponent is extraordinarily dangerous.

Kuwabara appears when the Tokyo team is unexpectedly transported to Osaka during the Nurarihyon mission. He and the other veteran Osaka hunters initially regard the newcomers as outsiders who might steal their points.

He participates in the fighting against the mission's strongest targets alongside Joji Shimaki and Nobuo Muroya. After Nurarihyon transforms into a form composed of female bodies, Kuwabara sexually assaults it and is mutilated when the alien retaliates. Katou prevents him from falling to his death, and the surviving Osaka members carry him away.

Kuwabara survives the mission and subsequently chooses freedom through the 100-point menu, leaving Gantz with his memories of the game erased.

Nobuo Muroya and Joji Shimaki are fellow veteran Osaka hunters with whom Kuwabara competes and fights during the Nurarihyon mission.

Anzu Yamasaki knows Kuwabara as one of the Osaka team's most extreme personalities and openly describes his compulsive sexual behavior.

Masaru Katou becomes directly responsible for saving Kuwabara during the battle with Nurarihyon, catching the badly injured hunter before he falls.

Miho Yamanaka and Sumiko Yamada help remove Kuwabara from the battlefield after he is severely mutilated by Nurarihyon.
