Anzu Yamasaki

Anzu initially displays the cynical attitude common among Osaka's experienced hunters. When Katou tells her that he is helping civilians simply because they need saving, she laughs and follows him partly because she expects his behavior to prove hypocritical.

Repeatedly watching him endanger himself without expecting points or recognition changes her attitude. Anzu becomes increasingly willing to help civilians herself and develops a genuine attraction to Katou's compassion.

Her three-year-old son is central to the person beneath her hardened Gantz persona. Talking with Katou about the child creates a connection between them because both understand what it means to feel responsible for someone younger who depends on them.

Anzu is an experienced Gantz hunter familiar with the Osaka team's equipment and the dangers of alien missions. She uses the enhanced Gantz suit and firearms rather than possessing supernatural abilities of her own.

She is capable enough to operate independently during the enormous Osaka hunt, but she is not presented as one of the team's elite multiple-clear fighters. Her judgment can falter when confronted with particularly dangerous enemies, and Katou rescues her more than once.

Anzu's effectiveness increasingly comes from cooperation. Instead of competing for points like many Osaka veterans, she begins assisting Katou in protecting civilians and fighting as part of a group.

Anzu meets Katou after watching him rescue a civilian family during the Nurarihyon mission. Curious about behavior she considers irrational, she follows him and repeatedly questions why he risks himself for people he does not know.

Their conversations become increasingly personal, particularly after she tells him about her young son and hears about Ayumu Katou. Anzu eventually asks Katou to live with her and her son if they survive the mission.

During the final struggle against Nurarihyon, Anzu protects Katou from a lethal attack and is killed. She is subsequently revived through the Osaka Gantz sphere, allowing her to return to her son.

Masaru Katou initially fascinates Anzu because his selflessness contradicts everything she expects from an experienced Gantz hunter. She gradually falls in love with Masaru Katou and asks him to become part of the family she has with her son.

Anzu's unnamed son is the most important person in her ordinary life. She worries about what will happen to him if she fails to return from a mission.

Kazuo Kuwabara is a fellow Osaka hunter whom Anzu regards as an extreme sexual deviant.

Nobuo Muroya, Joji Shimaki and Hachiro Oka are veteran members of the Osaka team whose violent, competitive approach contrasts with the values Anzu begins adopting from Katou.
