Kayama

Kayama receives little characterization outside baseball. His brief storyline is largely comedic, centered on the consequences of eating far too much before an important game.

Like the other third-year prefab players, he is approaching the end of his high-school playing opportunities when Kou enters Seishuu.

Kayama plays shortstop for Maeno's original prefab lineup. The position places him at the center of the infield defense and requires quick fielding, throwing and coordination with the second baseman.

His ability cannot be judged fully from the first varsity game because physical discomfort forces him out before the contest is complete.

Kayama starts at shortstop in the prefab team's first practice game against Daimon's varsity. He has eaten too much okonomiyaki for breakfast, however, and becomes unable to continue partway through the contest.

His departure creates an opening for Senda to enter the prefab lineup at shortstop, a position that proves much better suited to Senda than pitching.

Kayama retires from baseball after the first practice game. His departure is one of several third-year losses that force Maeno to rebuild the prefab lineup for the later rematch.

Sentarou Maeno coaches Kayama on the prefab squad.

Keiichirou Senda replaces Kayama at shortstop when Kayama becomes unable to continue during the first game against the varsity.

Kou Kitamura, Osamu Akaishi and Daiki Nakanishi are younger teammates on the same prefab squad.

Makihara, Tsuneki and Sekiguchi are fellow third-year prefab players who also leave the team around the same stage of the story.
