Makihara

Makihara is unreliable about punctuality and has a confrontational streak. He previously pushed Nakanishi around during junior high, leaving the two with a poor relationship before they become Seishuu teammates.

He is also jealous of Kou's talent. Rather than using the younger player's ability as motivation, Makihara allows his resentment to interfere with his concentration and performance.

Makihara plays third base for the prefab squad. As an upperclassman, he has more organized baseball experience than Kou when the younger student enters Seishuu.

His performance is undermined by his emotional response to Kou's ability. Baseball requires concentration and quick reactions at third base, making lapses caused by jealousy particularly costly.

Makihara is one of the third-year players assigned to Maeno's prefab team after Daimon reorganizes the baseball club. He participates in the first practice game between the discarded players and Daimon's favored varsity.

As Kou begins displaying unexpected talent, Makihara becomes jealous and allows that reaction to affect his play. He retires from baseball after the first practice game, leaving the prefab team short of experienced players before its eventual rematch with the varsity.

Daiki Nakanishi has a hostile history with Makihara dating back to junior high, when Makihara frequently pushed the younger player around.

Kou Kitamura's unexpected baseball ability makes Makihara jealous, and that jealousy interferes with Makihara's performance.

Sentarou Maeno coaches Makihara on the prefab team.

Tsuneki and Sekiguchi are fellow third-year prefab players who also leave the team after its early confrontation with the varsity.
