Jake is responsible, hardworking and devoted to his son. His dedication to the Black Order means he spends considerable time away from John, making opportunities to choose something for him personally meaningful.
He is comfortable around Lenalee Lee and treats their day together casually, remaining unaware that Komui Lee has interpreted the outing as a romantic date.

Jake's major role occurs in the anime-original Episode 18. He and Lenalee Lee arrange to spend their shared day off shopping in town, prompting Komui Lee to assume that his sister is dating Jake.
Komui follows them with Allen Walker, Lavi, Reever Wenhamm and members of the Science Section, repeatedly attempting to interfere. A Level 2 Akuma further complicates matters by assuming Jake's appearance.
The misunderstanding is eventually resolved when it becomes clear that Jake was shopping for his son while Lenalee was selecting a present for Komui.
