Personality
Personality
Ithnan is serious, composed and direct. He generally speaks with confidence even when surrounded by enemies, rarely showing fear or uncertainty about his own magical abilities. That confidence can become arrogance: he is comfortable explaining Al-Thamen's methods to opponents because he expects Black Rukh and depravity to overcome their resistance.
He is particularly interested in people who can be pushed toward darkness. Rather than treating every confrontation as a simple battle, Ithnan attempts to exploit anger, grief and resentment, regarding such emotions as openings through which a person can reject the flow of the Rukh. His behavior toward Alibaba and Sinbad reflects this approach; converting important King Vessels to Al-Thamen's cause is more valuable to him than simply defeating them.
Ithnan's earlier life reveals a more personal side beneath that ideological certainty. He was once loyal to Solomon and deeply attached to his adoptive brother Setta. Setta's death left Ithnan unable to accept a world in which such a sacrifice could be dismissed as predetermined fate, and his grief became central to his rejection of Solomon's order. Even after turning against Solomon, he continued to respect and love his former king.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Ithnan is a highly accomplished magician with extensive knowledge of both conventional magic and techniques involving Black Rukh. His primary elemental specialization is Lightning Magic. At Zagan, he uses lightning to reinforce the magnetic abilities employed by Dunya and Isaac, substantially increasing the effectiveness of their Dark Metal and Household Vessels.
His offensive Lightning Magic includes Ramz, which produces a powerful lightning attack, and Ramz Al-Salos, which creates multiple spear-like bolts of lightning. He can also produce a Borg, the automatic defensive barrier characteristic of trained magicians. Ithnan uses his wand for spellcasting and flight; in the main story it resembles a scythe whose blade is shaped like a mask.
One of Ithnan's most dangerous techniques is Curse Magic, a subtype of Life Magic that uses Black Rukh to invade a target's blood vessels and interfere directly with their Rukh. The curse attempts to dye White Rukh black and force its victim toward depravity. Resisting it causes the opposing Rukh to damage the victim's body, making conventional removal extremely difficult. Ithnan uses this technique against Alibaba and Sinbad after allowing his blood to reach them.
Ithnan's magical knowledge predates the present world. In Alma Torran, he wielded one of the 72 Divine Staves. He later becomes involved in research surrounding Dark Metal Vessels, Dark Household Vessels, magic tools and the techniques used to produce Dark Djinn, giving Al-Thamen practical methods for turning fallen individuals into weapons.
Story Role
Story Role
Ithnan becomes directly involved with Aladdin's group during the Zagan Arc. He follows Dunya and Isaac into the Dungeon while disguised as part of their merchant party and assists them once fighting begins. When Aladdin and Alibaba attempt to exhaust their opponents' limited Magoi, Ithnan intervenes with Lightning Magic to strengthen Dunya and Isaac and prolong their ability to fight.
After Alibaba attacks him, Ithnan demonstrates the unnatural resilience associated with Al-Thamen's agents. A serpent emerges from his severed head and bites Hakuryuu's hand, allowing Ithnan to conceal himself inside Hakuryuu and later enter Sindria through him. Once there, he attacks and deliberately allows his blood to reach Alibaba and Sinbad, placing them under Curse Magic. He invites both men to surrender to darkness and become Black Kings serving Al-Thamen.
Sinbad pursues Ithnan after he withdraws from Sindria. Ithnan initially believes the curse gives him control over Sinbad, only to discover that Sinbad has already experienced partial depravity and can balance the Black and White Rukh within himself. Sinbad destroys Ithnan's physical form with Focalor's Extreme Magic, but part of Ithnan remains embedded within Alibaba through the curse. Aladdin ultimately confronts that remnant using the Wisdom of Solomon, where Ithnan's unresolved feelings about fate, Setta and Solomon become apparent.
The later history of Alma Torran establishes that Ithnan was originally one of Solomon Jehoahaz Abraham's comrades in the resistance against the Orthodox government. He fought beside Solomon, Ugo, Setta and others and wielded a Divine Staff. After Solomon replaced Ill Ilah as the world's god and imposed a new flow of destiny, Ithnan's inability to accept Setta's death as part of that fate contributed to his rebellion. He joined the movement that became Al-Thamen and turned against the king he had once faithfully served.
Relationships
Relationships
Setta is Ithnan's adoptive brother and the person most closely tied to his eventual rejection of fate. The two were raised together in the same church and shared a genuine familial bond. When Setta was selected as a sacrificial medium for the towers controlling other species, Ithnan sacrificed half of his own lifespan to preserve him. Setta's later death devastates Ithnan, who refuses to accept that his brother's freely chosen struggle and sacrifice were merely events predetermined by fate.
Solomon Jehoahaz Abraham is Ithnan's former leader and king. Ithnan initially fights loyally in Solomon's resistance and is trusted with important responsibilities. Although he eventually rebels against Solomon's new world order, his betrayal does not erase his affection and respect for him; during his final confrontation within Alibaba, Ithnan admits that he feels ashamed at the prospect of facing Solomon again.
Uraltugo Noi Nueph, commonly called Ugo, is one of Ithnan's former comrades in Solomon's resistance. Ithnan regularly criticizes Ugo's timid behavior during their younger years, particularly his tendency to hide behind stronger companions in battle.
Dunya Musta'sim is an operative whom Ithnan supports during the Zagan conflict. He strengthens her Dark Metal Vessel abilities with his magic, and other Al-Thamen members note that Ithnan is particularly partial to her.
Isaac fights alongside Ithnan and Dunya at Zagan. Ithnan's Lightning Magic enhances the magnetic abilities used by both of them during their confrontation with Aladdin's group.
Aladdin becomes one of Ithnan's principal opponents. Ithnan recognizes the threat posed by Aladdin's unusual connection to the Rukh, while Aladdin eventually confronts the remnant of Ithnan inside Alibaba through the Wisdom of Solomon and forces him to face the emotions underlying his rejection of fate.
Alibaba Saluja is targeted by Ithnan as a potential Black King. Ithnan infects him with Curse Magic in an attempt to exploit the darkness already present in his heart and force him into depravity.
Sinbad is another King Vessel Ithnan attempts to corrupt. Their confrontation exposes that Sinbad has already experienced partial depravity, making Ithnan's curse less effective than expected and allowing Sinbad to resist his attempt at control.
Hakuryuu Ren encounters Ithnan at Zagan. Ithnan uses the injury inflicted on Hakuryuu as a means of hiding within his body and reaching Sindria, and he finds Hakuryuu's internal darkness particularly comfortable because of the prince's already substantial hatred and resentment.
Arba is one of Ithnan's former comrades from Alma Torran and later a fellow member of Al-Thamen. Both turn against Solomon's new order and participate in the rebellion against the destiny imposed upon the world.
Falan and Wahid are fellow members of Solomon's resistance who share Ithnan's history in Alma Torran. They are among the former allies drawn into the conflict that eventually divides Solomon's followers over his new world order.
