Inaba Kouki

Inaba is insecure, cowardly and prone to masking fear with an affected coolness. He frequently hides during dangerous encounters and initially refuses to participate in Kurono's training sessions because he does not accept Kurono as the team's leader.

Jealousy also influences his behavior. He is attracted to Reika and resents the attention she gives Kurono, contributing to his willingness to oppose Kurono during the mission targeting Tae Kojima.

His attitude gradually changes as he witnesses Kurono repeatedly protect the group. During the Italian mission, Suzuki's sacrifice on his behalf finally forces Inaba to confront both his fear and his belief that nobody genuinely cares about him. He responds by fighting with a level of courage and competence he had never previously demonstrated.

Inaba receives the enhanced strength, speed and durability of the standard Gantz suit and has access to the team's firearms. For much of his participation, however, fear prevents him from using those advantages effectively.

His early scores reflect this reluctance. He earns no points during the Dinosaur Alien mission and frequently depends on stronger teammates when confronted by dangerous targets.

During the Italian mission, Inaba finally demonstrates considerable combat ability. Despite losing an eye, an ear and eventually an arm, he kills several powerful statue aliens and defeats a larger opponent by himself.

Inaba joins the expanded Tokyo team following the Shinjuku massacre. During the Dinosaur Alien and Tae missions, he stands apart from Kurono's emerging group, refusing training and even physically opposing Kurono when the team is ordered to kill Tae.

His opinion begins changing during the Oni Alien mission, where Kurono's leadership repeatedly keeps the team alive. Inaba eventually acknowledges that following Kurono offers him the best chance of surviving Gantz.

The Italian mission completes Inaba's development. After Suzuki sacrifices himself to protect him, Inaba realizes that the older hunter genuinely cared about him and fights back with unprecedented determination. He kills several aliens before being crushed by the mission's final giant enemy.

Reika Shimohira is the object of Inaba's unrequited attraction. His jealousy over Reika Shimohira's feelings for Kurono contributes to his resentment of the team's leader.

Kei Kurono initially represents everything Inaba dislikes about the team's changing hierarchy. Inaba refuses to recognize Kei Kurono as leader, but eventually comes to respect his ability and accepts that the team needs his leadership.

Yoshikazu Suzuki treats Inaba with kindness despite his shortcomings. Only after Suzuki sacrifices himself for him does Inaba realize how much the older man cared about him.

Tae Kojima becomes a target Inaba is initially willing to pursue when Gantz orders the team to kill her.
