Hachisuka

Hachisuka is crude, aggressive and quick to retaliate against anyone who injures a member of his gang. Despite the criminal nature of the Hishimanji Guren, he shows a degree of group loyalty by mobilizing his men to avenge a member hurt in the earlier brawl.

He is also lecherous toward Kaoru and readily escalates the confrontation even when given opportunities to avoid further violence. His confidence rests heavily on numerical superiority and the gang's wooden cannon.

Hachisuka's bravado is not matched by elite combat ability. Once Kenshin demonstrates that even the gang's strongest weapon cannot threaten him, Hachisuka loses the leverage on which his intimidation depends.

Hachisuka carries a sickle, though the manga does not establish a named fighting style or demonstrate extensive individual skill with it.

His more significant strength is command over the Hishimanji Guren Gang. The group can overwhelm ordinary opponents through numbers and possesses a wooden cannon capable of firing a large projectile with dangerous force.

That weapon proves ineffective against Kenshin, who is fast and precise enough to counter its projectile directly.

Hachisuka enters the story after Hira and Satou, former Kamiya Kasshin-ryu students, become drunk and injure members of his gang. The two flee to their former dojo for help, bringing Hachisuka's retaliation to Kaoru's home.

Kaoru accepts responsibility for the misconduct of her former pupils and prepares to face the gang. Yahiko refuses to allow her to do so alone and attacks Hachisuka despite the difference in age and strength.

Kenshin returns before the confrontation can become disastrous. Hachisuka orders the gang's wooden cannon fired at him, but Kenshin cuts the projectile in two, convincing the Hishimanji Guren that continuing the fight would be pointless.

Hira and Satou provoke Hachisuka's gang through their drunken misconduct, leading him to pursue them to the Kamiya Dojo.

Kaoru Kamiya accepts responsibility for her former students when Hachisuka arrives seeking retaliation.

Yahiko Myojin attacks Hachisuka while trying to protect Kaoru.

Kenshin Himura ends the confrontation by demonstrating that the Hishimanji Guren Gang's wooden cannon cannot overcome him.
