Tarukane is greedy, sadistic and almost completely motivated by money. He views Yukina's supernatural tears as merchandise and refuses to recognize her suffering as meaningful except when it affects his profits.
His arrogance comes from wealth rather than personal strength. Tarukane surrounds himself with armed guards and demons, assuming that anything threatening him can be bought, intimidated or destroyed by hired muscle.
He is also an enthusiastic gambler. Even while his estate is being invaded, he treats the conflict as an opportunity to wager with other members of the Black Black Club.

Tarukane possesses no supernatural fighting ability. His power comes from immense wealth, private security and his connections to the criminal Black Black Club.
He hires the Toguro Brothers and their Apparition Gang to guard his estate, giving him access to combatants far beyond anything ordinary human security could provide.
Tarukane's resources also allow him to maintain an isolated compound in which Yukina can be held without outside interference.

Tarukane kidnaps Yukina after learning that the tears of an Ice Maiden crystallize into valuable gems. His attempts to force those tears establish the central conflict of the Yukina rescue storyline.
Yusuke and Kuwabara attack his estate while Tarukane and other wealthy criminals place bets on their survival against the demons stationed inside.
The entire confrontation is manipulated by the Toguro Brothers and Sakyo as part of a larger scheme involving the Black Black Club. Tarukane ultimately loses his fortune through the wagers surrounding the battle and is killed after his usefulness ends.
