Yukina

Yukina is gentle, compassionate and remarkably forgiving. Despite experiencing cruelty after entering the Human World, she does not develop a corresponding hatred of humans and remains willing to trust those who treat her kindly.

She is somewhat naïve about ordinary social behavior and particularly about Kuwabara's obvious romantic feelings. His exaggerated reactions are often accepted by Yukina with innocent friendliness rather than embarrassment.

Yukina also possesses quiet determination. Her kindness does not prevent her from leaving the security of her homeland or enduring danger while pursuing answers about her family.

As a Koorime, Yukina naturally possesses powers associated with ice and cold. She can lower temperatures and manipulate cold energy, although she is not primarily presented as a combatant.

Her most practically important supernatural talent is healing. Yukina can use her energy to treat injuries and assists members of Team Urameshi and their allies on several occasions.

When Yukina cries, her tears crystallize into Hiruiseki, extremely valuable gemstones. This biological trait of the Koorime becomes the reason she is exploited by humans seeking to profit from the stones.

Yukina first becomes central to Yusuke's work when she is imprisoned by the wealthy criminal Gonzu Tarukane, who attempts to force her to produce valuable tear gems. Koenma sends Yusuke and Kuwabara to rescue her.

Kuwabara immediately falls in love with Yukina, while Hiei secretly participates in events surrounding her captivity for deeply personal reasons.

Yukina is Hiei's younger fraternal twin sister. Their birth violated the Koorime tradition because Hiei was male, and he was cast away from the floating Ice Maiden village shortly after birth. Yukina later leaves the village partly to search for the brother whose identity remains unknown to her.

She remains connected to Yusuke's group after her rescue and appears during the Dark Tournament, where her arrival gives the badly injured Kuwabara enough motivation to overcome Risho.

Hiei is Yukina's older fraternal twin brother, although she spends most of the story unaware of their exact relationship. Hiei repeatedly protects her while refusing to reveal the truth.

Kazuma Kuwabara falls deeply in love with Yukina and consistently tries to protect and impress her. Yukina treats him with genuine warmth even though she does not initially understand the romantic intensity of his behavior.

Yusuke Urameshi helps rescue Yukina from captivity and becomes one of her trusted allies.

Kurama assists in protecting Yukina and understands Hiei's connection to her.

Genkai provides Yukina with a safe place to stay, and Yukina spends considerable time at her temple.

Botan becomes one of Yukina's friends through Team Urameshi.

Hina is Yukina and Hiei's mother, an Ice Maiden who suffered greatly after her son was taken away.

Rui helps preserve the truth about Yukina's family and later tells Hiei about his origins.

Gonzu Tarukane imprisons and abuses Yukina in an attempt to profit from her Hiruiseki tears.
