Gild Tesoro

Tesoro is arrogant, controlling, theatrical, and obsessed with money. He regards wealth as the ultimate measure of freedom and power, reducing people to assets whose value can be calculated financially.

His cruelty is inseparable from his need for control. He enjoys placing visitors into debt and then using their obligations to strip them of autonomy, recreating a hierarchy in which he occupies the position of absolute authority.

His obsession developed after Stella was taken from him and enslaved by the World Nobles. Unable to save her because he lacked money and power, Tesoro eventually embraced the very logic of ownership and domination that had once devastated him.

Tesoro possesses the Goru Goru no Mi, a Paramecia Devil Fruit that allows him to manipulate gold he has previously touched. Gran Tesoro contains enormous quantities of gold, effectively turning the entire city-ship into an environment he can weaponize.

He can restrain targets using gold dust placed on their bodies, create enormous golden structures, and construct the gigantic Gold Tesoro combat form. He is also physically formidable and possesses immense economic and political influence.

Tesoro welcomes the Straw Hats to Gran Tesoro before manipulating them into a gambling trap. Once the crew accumulates an impossible debt, he attempts to reduce them to servants under the same system that controls much of the city.

The Straw Hats eventually cooperate with figures seeking to rob or overthrow him, turning Gran Tesoro's elaborate casino economy against its owner.

Stella was Tesoro's love interest and the person around whom the most important part of his past revolves.

Carina works within Gran Tesoro while pursuing her own agenda and has a complicated relationship with Tesoro's organization. Tanaka and Baccarat are senior members of Tesoro's staff.

Monkey D. Luffy becomes Tesoro's principal opponent after the Straw Hats are trapped by his debt scheme.
