General Boscogne

Boscogne is stern, disciplined and intolerant of incompetence. He regards military command as a responsibility rather than an opportunity for self-indulgence and reacts angrily when officers sacrifice soldiers through cowardice or personal grudges.

He is particularly contemptuous of Adon Coborlwitz, whose failures and excuses offend Boscogne's standards. He likewise privately despises Gennon's sexual predation and becomes frustrated when the governor's fixation on Griffith interferes with sound tactics.

Boscogne nevertheless respects hierarchy. Even when he recognizes that Gennon's orders are strategically foolish, his position requires him to obey.

Boscogne is among the strongest ordinary human warriors encountered during the Golden Age. He wields a massive poleaxe with enough force to cut armored soldiers apart, yet his technique is controlled rather than relying solely on brute strength.

His mounted combat is equally formidable. During his duel with Guts, their exchanges occur with such speed and force that surrounding soldiers struggle to follow them. Guts considers fighting Boscogne more dangerous than his earlier battle against a hundred Tudor mercenaries.

Boscogne is also a capable battlefield commander. He reads suspicious enemy movements quickly and attempts to maintain disciplined formations rather than recklessly pursuing apparent opportunities.

Boscogne is introduced at Doldrey after Adon's disastrous pursuit of Guts and Casca. Disgusted by the loss of soldiers for a personal vendetta, he strips Adon of command.

When Midland sends the Band of the Hawk to capture Doldrey, Boscogne leads the Purple Rhino Knights against them. He correctly questions several elements of Griffith's apparent strategy, but Gennon's insistence that Griffith be captured alive restricts his options.

Boscogne eventually confronts Guts directly. He breaks Guts's already damaged sword and nearly gains a decisive advantage, but Zodd throws a replacement weapon onto the battlefield. Guts uses it to behead Boscogne and his horse, removing Tudor's strongest field commander as Casca's force captures Doldrey.

Guts becomes Boscogne's principal opponent during the Battle for Doldrey. Their duel pushes Guts harder than virtually any previous battle against a human warrior.

Lord Gennon is Boscogne's political superior at Doldrey. Boscogne obeys him despite privately despising his personal behavior and questioning his military interference.

Adon Coborlwitz earns Boscogne's contempt through cowardice, excuses and the waste of his soldiers' lives.

Griffith commands the Midland force Boscogne is ordered to defeat while simultaneously being kept alive for Lord Gennon.

Zodd indirectly determines Boscogne's duel with Guts by throwing a sword onto the battlefield for Guts to use.
