Gakko Ibuki

Gakko is aloof, combative and irreverent toward tradition. He enjoys provoking people, particularly Hana Asakura, and frequently turns disagreements into opportunities to test himself. His stated wish for the Flower of Maize is straightforward: he wants to become the strongest man in the world.

He also has an easy, argumentative rapport with Namaha. Their bickering can make them look less coordinated than they are, but in combat their abilities are deliberately designed to work together.

Gakko specializes in fighting oni. His Guardian Ghost Namaha can form O.S. Nama-Hage and, more importantly, the armor-type O.S. Ogre Hunter. The latter covers Gakko in specialized equipment including a straw-like mantle, a large blade and a cannon.

His equipment is designed around absorbing or neutralizing hostile Furyoku and returning that power offensively. This specialization makes him particularly effective against the oni summoned by Hana.

Gakko later demonstrates the Cloud technique and can produce a copy of Hao's third incarnation.

Gakko arrives in Funbari Hill shortly before the other young Team Hao members and visits the cemetery in search of potential Guardian Ghosts. There he encounters Hana, teases him and becomes involved in a fight before realizing that Hana himself is a shaman.

When Hana begins summoning oni, Gakko reveals Ogre Hunter and identifies himself as Team Hao's Anti-Oni Specialist. Namaha then realizes that the opponent they are fighting is actually the leader of their own team.

Gakko successfully cuts through Hana's condensed Naka-Oni armor and defeats him. Alumi subsequently gathers him with Hana and Yohane and explains the Flower of Maize. He remains part of Team Hao as the group prepares for the conflict with Team YVS.

Namaha is Gakko's Guardian Ghost and constant companion. Their frequent arguments coexist with an effective combat partnership.

Hana Asakura initially fights Gakko without realizing they belong to the same team. Gakko enjoys provoking Hana even after they become companions.

Alumi Numbirch welcomes Gakko into Team Hao and acts as one of the team's principal organizers. Namaha's admiration for Alumi also affects their interactions.

Yohane Asakura and Tao Men serve alongside Gakko as Team Hao captains.

Hao Asakura is Gakko's ancestor and the Shaman King represented by his team in the Flower of Maize.
