Personality
Personality
Fra YVS is calculating, materialistic and intensely protective of the civilization built around his values. He regards the existing world as a successful system rather than something requiring radical change, putting him in direct ideological conflict with Hao.
His preferred methods are manipulation rather than honorable confrontation. Accounts of the Shaman Fight of 1500 describe him using bribery, blackmail and other forms of pressure to make rivals withdraw rather than defeating them through straightforward combat. The Patch Officiants of the era consequently held him in low regard despite his eventual victory.
YVS is also patient. He recognized Hao as a threat long before the modern Flower of Maize and developed contingencies rather than relying solely on the extraordinary direct power available to a Shaman King.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
As the Shaman King of his era, YVS possessed the Great Spirit as his Guardian Ghost and therefore wielded power on a planetary scale. His raw supernatural potential should consequently be distinguished from his preference for indirect methods; his reliance on manipulation does not imply that he lacks divine power.
His greatest practical weapon is organization. YVS establishes networks of agents and institutions capable of affecting politics, economics, warfare and information. Daremoine becomes one of the principal mechanisms through which his capitalist system is protected.
Fragments of his power can also be distributed to others. These pieces amplify Over Souls and allow Team YVS to extend YVS's influence through intermediaries such as Yohkyo Asakura and Luca Asakura.
Story Role
Story Role
YVS wins the Shaman Fight held in AD 1500, the same tournament in which Hao's second incarnation participates as a member of the Patch Tribe. Rather than winning through a succession of direct battles, YVS pressures competitors into withdrawing and ultimately gains access to the Great Spirit.
His reign helps establish the foundations of the modern capitalist world. He also creates Daremoine, a secret network that maintains his preferred social order through manipulation of global systems.
YVS anticipates Hao's eventual return and attempts to have the infant incarnation eliminated through the Lasso family. When these efforts fail, he prepares for the possibility that Hao will become the next Shaman King and that the resulting ideological dispute will have to be settled through the Flower of Maize.
After Hao becomes Shaman King, disagreement among the G8 over his plans triggers the Flower of Maize. YVS becomes the divine representative of Team YVS, with Yohsuke Kamogawa acting as its general.
Relationships
Relationships
Hao Asakura is YVS's successor as Shaman King and his principal ideological opponent. YVS considers Hao the greatest threat to the civilization he created.
Yohsuke Kamogawa serves as the general of Team YVS and the principal human agent advancing YVS's cause in the Flower of Maize.
Yohkyo Asakura receives fragments of YVS's power through Yohsuke, allowing Team YVS to exploit the Kyoto Asakura family's internal feud.
Luca Asakura receives YVS Meidum, a fragment of YVS's power that amplifies her Over Soul.
Spimea Lasso is one of the major figures operating within the network that protects YVS's interests.
YVS, the pyramid-shaped robot, is a separate entity from Fra YVS despite sharing his name and iconography; it becomes Yohsuke's supernatural intermediary.
