Azami Midou

Azami is independent, straightforward and loyal. Her rougher background does not prevent her from treating Ganta kindly, and she becomes one of his earliest friends inside the general prison population.

Her loyalty also defined her life before imprisonment. Neglected by her parents, Azami joined a motorcycle gang in high school and accepted responsibility after an accident rather than implicating her friends.

She has a gentler side that is particularly evident in her care for Kincho. A star-shaped adhesive bandage she wears later becomes an important way for Ganta to recognize her.

Azami initially possesses no Branch of Sin and has no established supernatural abilities.

After being captured and transformed into a Forgery, she receives an artificial Branch of Sin known as Snake. Like other Forgeries, she is subjected to drugs and control equipment that suppress independent behavior while allowing her to use an artificially induced blood ability.

Snake forms Azami's blood into long serpentine constructs that can attack and restrain targets.

Azami meets Ganta in C Ward and helps him adjust to the general prisoner population. Her life initially remains separate from the Deadmen and Carnival Corpse.

Makina later sends Azami into G Ward as a spy while investigating Tamaki. Azami is captured during the operation and transformed into a Forgery, with a mask and drugs used to control her. Ganta recognizes her by the star-shaped bandage on her hand and refuses to treat her as an enemy.

Azami eventually regains enough independence to assist Ganta and Shiro. During the final conflict at Deadman Wonderland, Hagire kills her while she is trying to protect her friends.

Ganta Igarashi befriends Azami soon after entering Deadman Wonderland. He later recognizes her after her transformation into a Forgery and risks his standing with the other Deadmen to protect her.

Shiro becomes Azami's ally, and the two cooperate when Ganta needs rescuing.

Kiwako Flügel Makina uses Azami as an informant during her investigation of the hidden Deadman sector.

Tsunenaga Tamaki's Forgery project is responsible for Azami's forced transformation into an artificial Deadman.

Kincho is Azami's pet armadillo and one of her most treasured companions.
