Alan Smithee

Alan is calculating, secretive, manipulative, and willing to threaten innocent people to force cooperation. Rather than exposing himself unnecessarily, he relies on coercion and intermediaries while pursuing his objectives.

He views people primarily according to their usefulness. Lupin's extraordinary theft skills make him a tool for obtaining the Cherry Sapphire, while threats against people Lupin cares about provide the leverage needed to keep him obedient.

Alan nevertheless possesses enough confidence in his own planning to confront opponents once he believes he controls the situation. That confidence becomes dangerous when he underestimates the combined abilities of Lupin and Conan.

Alan has no supernatural abilities. His power comes from wealth, criminal connections, access to weapons, and the ability to organize complex international operations.

As an arms dealer, he understands the value of military technology and classified information. The Cherry Sapphire matters to him not simply as a gemstone but because of the information associated with it.

He is also capable of arranging surveillance, coercion, and armed security, allowing him to manipulate events without personally performing the thefts required by his plan.

Alan operates behind the central conspiracy of Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie. He forces Lupin to carry out thefts by holding Fujiko Mine under threat, turning what initially resembles an ordinary Lupin heist into part of a larger criminal operation.

The Cherry Sapphire becomes his principal objective. Conan recognizes that Lupin's behavior does not match his usual motives and begins investigating the person directing the theft from behind the scenes.

Alan is ultimately revealed as the mastermind pursuing classified information connected to the Cherry Sapphire and an illegal arms transaction. His plan is disrupted when Conan and Lupin converge on the same conspiracy.

After being mortally wounded during the final confrontation, Alan learns Conan's real identity when Conan identifies himself as Shinichi Kudo. Alan dies shortly afterward, making him one of the relatively few characters outside Conan's inner circle to learn the secret without being able to expose it.

Arsène Lupin III is coerced into working for Alan. Alan exploits Arsène Lupin III's concern for Fujiko to force him to steal the Cherry Sapphire.

Fujiko Mine is used as leverage against Lupin through the threat of an explosive device.

Conan Edogawa investigates the motives behind Lupin's unusual theft and eventually reaches Alan's conspiracy. [During Alan's final moments, Conan Edogawa reveals that he is actually Shinichi Kudo.](#spoiler)

Emilio Baretti becomes entangled in the wider conspiracy surrounding Alan's criminal operation.

Luciano Carnevale is connected to the business and criminal arrangements surrounding the events Alan manipulates.

Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, and Fujiko Mine become involved as Lupin's allies once the coerced theft develops into a larger confrontation.
