Akito Souma

Akito is possessive, volatile and intensely fearful of abandonment. The Zodiac bond is treated not simply as a family connection but as proof that its members are obligated to remain together forever.

That insecurity frequently becomes cruelty. Akito targets relationships that threaten the exclusivity of the bond and uses the authority of the family head, emotional manipulation and physical violence to maintain control.

Akito is also profoundly isolated. Much of that behavior grows from a childhood in which love, identity and the supernatural promise of the Zodiac were deliberately entangled.

Akito occupies the role of God within the Zodiac curse rather than transforming into an animal. This position creates a supernatural bond with the cursed members that they experience as instinctive reverence and emotional attachment.

The bond gives Akito no conventional combat ability, but its psychological force is immense. Zodiac members who intellectually recognize Akito's cruelty can still find direct resistance extraordinarily difficult.

Akito also possesses extensive practical authority as head of the wealthy Souma family, making supernatural pressure and institutional power reinforce one another.

Akito initially operates as the largely unseen center of the curse. The Zodiac members' reactions establish the fear surrounding the family head before Tooru fully understands why that authority is so difficult to challenge.

Akito was born female but was raised publicly as male at Ren's insistence. Ren's jealousy of her daughter and Akira's conviction that Akito's birth as the Zodiac God proved she was uniquely loved leave Akito with a distorted understanding of affection and entitlement.

As individual Zodiac bonds begin breaking, Akito becomes increasingly desperate to preserve the promised eternal banquet. Tooru ultimately approaches Akito not as a rival for the Zodiac but as another lonely person terrified of change, helping create the possibility of ending the cycle rather than preserving it.

Ren Souma is Akito's mother and a central source of childhood trauma. Ren forces Akito to be raised as male and repeatedly attacks the idea that Akito can be loved simply for existing.

Akira Souma is Akito's father and predecessor as family head. His love gives Akito comfort but also reinforces the belief that the Zodiac bond proves a special, permanent destiny.

Shigure Souma shares one of Akito's most complicated relationships. Their mutual romantic attachment is tangled with jealousy, manipulation and deliberate attempts to hurt one another before they can establish a relationship outside the old Zodiac structure.

Kureno Souma remains closely beside Akito for years. His curse broke long before the others, but he stays out of pity after seeing Akito's devastation, creating a dependency Akito treats as proof that he will never leave.

Tooru Honda initially represents everything Akito fears: an outsider forming bonds with people Akito considers permanently possessed by the Zodiac. Their eventual confrontation instead becomes an opportunity for Akito to accept that relationships chosen freely can replace bonds enforced by fear.
