Morihito receives a prophecy identifying dogs and raindrops as the heralds of disaster for Nico. His vigilance intensifies when a masked stranger approaches them on a rainy day, beginning a chain of encounters involving another familiar, suspicious magic and unknown figures targeting Nico.

The ominous warning about dogs and rain leads Morihito to treat every rainy encounter as a potential attack. The suspicious dog-masked figure following Nico is revealed to be Kanshi Kazamatsuri, a tengu familiar and friend from her period of witch training. Kanshi subsequently moves into the Otogi household and joins Morihito in guarding her.
As the household adjusts to its energetic new resident, Nico continues using magic to solve everyday problems, often with chaotic results. Kanshi attempts to establish himself at school and prove that he can contribute as Nico's protector, but signs of a genuine magical conspiracy begin appearing. Enchanted items and concealed attackers suggest that the prophecy concerns an organized effort to seize Nico rather than a single accident.
