Personality
Personality
SAI is timid, private, anxious around intense personalities, and deeply uncomfortable with being reduced to the label of "genius." His mathematical ability attracted attention from childhood, but the expectations placed on him turned that talent into something he often resents.
Coding is different. Programming is something SAI pursues because he genuinely loves it, making his insistence that he is "a programmer, not a mathematician" central to understanding him.
His younger brother's limitless demands are especially exhausting. Ryusui Nanami regards SAI's abilities as something wonderful that should be pushed as far as possible, while SAI frequently experiences the same attitude as overwhelming pressure.
Despite his nervous temperament, SAI has strong professional ethics. He refuses to manipulate calculations or software simply to manufacture a desired result, paralleling Senku's refusal to falsify science.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
SAI is an extraordinary mathematician. He can solve complicated numerical problems mentally within seconds and perform calculations at speeds approaching mechanical tools.
His preferred specialty is programming. SAI can reconstruct software from memory, produce machine code for extremely primitive computing systems, and reproduce the logical structures behind classic games despite the Kingdom of Science lacking modern hardware.
His memory is exceptional. His familiarity with video games allows him to reproduce enormous quantities of program logic from memory alone, filling walls with handwritten code while the hardware required to run it is still being developed.
SAI is also a capable teacher. Before petrification he works at a university in India, and later he teaches advanced mathematics to people such as Chrome and Suika when the Kingdom of Science's engineering projects begin requiring calculations beyond Senku's available time.
He is ambidextrous enough to write with both hands simultaneously, increasing the speed at which he can produce enormous volumes of code.
Story Role
Story Role
The Kingdom of Science searches for SAI after its global plans begin requiring increasingly advanced calculations. Ryusui knows exactly where his brother would likely have been at the moment of petrification: isolated with a computer near the university where he works.
Once revived, SAI is horrified by the primitive state of Stone World computing and initially wants little to do with the scale of work Ryusui imagines for him.
Senku Ishigami gradually rebuilds the hardware necessary to make programming meaningful again. SAI responds by reconstructing games and then applying the same skills to increasingly important scientific systems.
His mathematics and software become essential to the Kingdom of Science's rocket-development program, including simulations and calculations needed to transform the Moon mission from a concept into a workable engineering plan.
SAI consequently becomes one of the specialists whose knowledge marks the transition from rebuilding industrial civilization to rebuilding advanced information technology.
Relationships
Relationships
Ryusui Nanami is SAI's younger half-brother. Ryusui admires SAI's abilities without reservation, but his relentless demands contributed to SAI fleeing the Nanami family's expectations.
Senku Ishigami gives SAI a technological environment in which programming can exist again and values him as a specialist rather than merely as a mathematical prodigy.
Chrome later studies advanced mathematics under SAI because increasingly complex engineering requires knowledge beyond Stone World arithmetic.
Suika also receives instruction from SAI as the Kingdom of Science expands its scientific workforce.
Francois understands the Nanami household and therefore helps mediate some of the friction surrounding SAI and Ryusui.
