Yoichi Nagumo

Nagumo is playful, deceptive, and almost impossible to read. He lies casually, changes his appearance to prank acquaintances, and maintains an easygoing expression even in situations where other assassins become visibly tense. The frivolity is partly genuine and partly useful camouflage.

Beneath that behavior, he is extremely observant. Nagumo reads opponents quickly, hides his own intentions, and manipulates expectations before committing to an attack. His background in espionage complements this instinct for misdirection.

His loyalty is selective but substantial. Sakamoto and Rion occupy a particularly important place in his life, and events connected to their JCC years continue to influence his actions long after the trio separates.

Nagumo ranks among the most dangerous assassins of his generation. He possesses extraordinary speed, strength, reflexes, tactical intelligence, and weapon proficiency, allowing him to fight other elite assassins directly despite his relaxed demeanor.

His signature equipment is a large multi-tool weapon resembling an oversized Swiss Army knife. Different blades and implements can be deployed from it, letting him alter his fighting style during combat and making his next attack difficult to anticipate.

Nagumo is also an exceptional disguise artist. He can reproduce another person's appearance with extraordinary accuracy and can change disguises rapidly enough to use impersonation tactically. Even Shin's telepathy initially struggles to get a useful read on him.

Nagumo later demonstrates his full combat sophistication against Gaku, using disguise, feints, concealed weapons, and misdirection to defeat an opponent whose physical abilities place him among X's strongest fighters.

Nagumo first visits Sakamoto to warn him that a billion-yen bounty has been placed on his head. His arrival reconnects Sakamoto to ORDER and establishes that his former colleagues remain active within the JAA.

As the conspiracy surrounding X develops, Nagumo becomes increasingly important. His position inside ORDER gives him access to information unavailable to Sakamoto, while his personal connection to events from their student years makes the investigation more than a professional assignment.

The JCC flashback reveals Nagumo's close friendship with Sakamoto and Rion and their mission involving Kei Uzuki. The unresolved consequences of that mission shape Nagumo's later investigation into X.

During the JAA crisis, Nagumo's pursuit of the truth places him at odds with the association's leadership. His actions eventually separate him from the institutional role that initially defined his present-day position.

Taro Sakamoto is Nagumo's longtime friend and former JCC classmate. Their easy familiarity survives Sakamoto's retirement, and Nagumo repeatedly aids him despite their different positions within the assassin world.

Rion Akao was Nagumo's other closest companion at the JCC. Her disappearance and death become central to his interest in Uzuki and the truth behind their old mission.

Kei Uzuki is connected to Nagumo through the catastrophic mission from his JCC years and later becomes the leader Nagumo knows as X.

Shin Asakura meets Nagumo through Sakamoto and quickly learns how difficult Nagumo is to read even with telepathy.

Shishiba and Osaragi are Nagumo's ORDER colleagues. Although their personalities differ sharply, they operate within the same elite unit.

Kindaka tests and recruits the young Nagumo, Sakamoto, and Rion during their JCC years, helping shape their path toward ORDER.

Gaku becomes one of Nagumo's most formidable direct opponents during the confrontation surrounding the JAA chairman.
