Yasuharu Yasuda

Yasuda is mild, polite and calm, qualities that make him an unusual member of a team filled with strong tempers. He is frequently teased by Sakuragi but generally responds without escalating the situation.

His gentleness should not be mistaken for cowardice. When Mitsui and his delinquent companions threaten the basketball club, Yasuda confronts them despite having no realistic physical advantage. His concern is protecting the club rather than winning a fight.

Yasuda's composure also becomes a tactical asset. He does not respond easily to provocation, making him useful against opponents who deliberately try to turn a basketball game into an emotional confrontation.

Yasuda is a reserve point guard with sound fundamentals. He lacks Miyagi's exceptional speed and penetrating ability, but can organize possessions and move the ball without unnecessarily disrupting Shohoku's structure.

His greatest competitive strength is control. Coach Anzai can use him when slowing the pace or calming teammates matters more than adding individual scoring.

At 165 cm, Yasuda is one of Shohoku's smallest players and has no exceptional physical advantage. His continued place on the roster therefore depends on basketball understanding, reliability and disciplined play.

Yasuda is present during Shohoku's early practices and serves as a starting guard before Miyagi returns. As the roster fills with stronger players, he moves primarily to the bench.

His courage becomes clear during Mitsui's assault on the gym. Yasuda attempts to reason with and confront the intruders because a violent incident could lead to the basketball club's suspension.

At the national tournament against Toyotama, Anzai deliberately sends Yasuda into the game after Shohoku's starters become angry at Toyotama's provocations. Yasuda's calm temperament allows him to resist the psychological tactics and helps alter the game's rhythm.

Ryota Miyagi is Yasuda's close friend and the point guard ahead of him in Shohoku's rotation.

Hanamichi Sakuragi frequently teases Yasuda, though Yasuda continues supporting him and occasionally offers advice from the bench.

Hisashi Mitsui first confronts Yasuda as an aggressor during the gymnasium incident before later becoming his teammate.

Mitsuyoshi Anzai recognizes Yasuda's composure and uses precisely that quality as a tactical weapon against Toyotama.

Takenori Akagi is Yasuda's captain and one of the veterans with whom he endured Shohoku's weaker period.
