Shouta Toyokawa

Shouta is stubborn, suspicious and fiercely protective of Yui. His poor manners lead him to call Rangiku an old woman, Ikkaku a cue ball and Hitsugaya an ordinary child.

That aggression conceals shame and fear. Shouta ran when a Hollow seized his sister, and his determination to find her is driven by love as well as a desire to correct what he sees as cowardice.

As a Plus, Shouta can perceive Shinigami, Hollows and other spiritual beings. His soul produces enough resonance with Yui’s to help break a Kidō barrier when their hands meet.

He has no combat abilities. During the final confrontation, he relies on Rangiku’s Zanpakutō while helping direct the attack against the Cloning Arrancar.

Shouta’s entire family dies in a traffic collision while traveling to an amusement park. After awakening as Pluses, he and Yui search for their parents until a Hollow attacks and carries Yui away.

Rangiku Matsumoto rescues Shouta and helps investigate his sister’s disappearance. They discover that Yui’s soul has been incorporated into a Cloning Arrancar. Guided by her ocarina, Shouta and Rangiku find its hidden body and strike it together, freeing and purifying the absorbed souls.

Yui Toyokawa is Shouta’s younger sister and the focus of his search. Their unnamed parents die in the same collision.

Rangiku Matsumoto becomes Shouta’s principal protector. Tōshirō Hitsugaya, Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa assist in the investigation despite Shouta’s initial hostility.
