Shambal Ramal

Shambal is wise, perceptive and fundamentally kind, but he does not believe useful training should be comfortable. He is willing to expose Alibaba to genuine danger because he recognizes that ordinary exercises will not force the young swordsman to overcome his physical limitations.

Outside training, Shambal has a pronounced gambling problem. He can become so absorbed in gambling that common sense disappears entirely, even continuing after losing his possessions and attempting to wager his gold tooth.

His eccentric behavior does not undermine his expertise. When the situation becomes serious, Shambal reads people and their physical condition with considerable precision.

Shambal is a master of Magoi Manipulation, the signature discipline of the Yambala people. Rather than simply releasing Magoi externally as conventional magic, practitioners circulate and focus it through their bodies and weapons to enhance physical attacks.

He is also an experienced gladiator and swordsman. His leadership of the Yambala Gladiators indicates a high level of proficiency in both martial combat and the techniques he teaches.

Shambal is additionally skilled in acupuncture. By examining Alibaba with needles, he detects the two incompatible forms of Magoi occupying his body and identifies Magoi Manipulation as a method through which Alibaba can bring them under control.

Shambal encounters Alibaba after the latter arrives in Reim searching for the Yambala. After observing his rematch with Toto, Shambal examines Alibaba and discovers the dangerous condition of his Magoi.

He accepts Alibaba as a student but requires him to fight in Reim's Colosseum as part of his training. Alibaba's brutal confrontation with Garda forces him to apply the principles of Magoi Manipulation under lethal pressure.

Shambal's instruction becomes an important stage in Alibaba's development because it teaches him to control his own internal Magoi rather than relying exclusively on Amon's external power.

Alibaba Saluja becomes Shambal's student in Magoi Manipulation. Shambal recognizes the danger posed by Alibaba's conflicting Magoi and designs his training around overcoming it.

Toto is Shambal's disciple and a member of the Yambala Gladiators. He trusts her enough to use her as Alibaba's first practical opponent.

Sinbad studied Magoi Manipulation under Shambal when he was younger. Shambal remains familiar enough with him to refer to him affectionately as "little Sinbad."

Hakuryuu Ren has also received training in Magoi Manipulation from the Yambala.
