Sanpei Taira

Taira is sadistic, aggressive and desensitized to the violence of Gantz. Like the other members of his trio, he actively enjoys combat and shows little concern for the suffering surrounding the Osaka hunt.

His previous completion of the game gives him confidence well beyond that of inexperienced participants. He approaches enemies as targets to be killed rather than threats to be avoided.

Taira is an experienced Gantz hunter familiar with the enhanced suit and the team's advanced weaponry.

Clearing the 100-point game demonstrates that he has accumulated substantial combat experience, although the manga does not give him a signature technique comparable with the most prominent Osaka veterans.

He is effective against ordinary mission enemies but faces much greater difficulty once the strongest yōkai and Vampires enter the battlefield.

Taira appears during the Nurarihyon mission as part of Osaka's experienced contingent. He and his companions readily engage the numerous yōkai filling the city.

The arrival of Hikawa, Chiaki and the samurai-like yōkai creates a confrontation between several groups of dangerous combatants.

Taira is ultimately killed during the escalating battle, becoming one of the many experienced Osaka players unable to survive the mission's exceptional difficulty.

Tetsuo Hara and Susumu Kimura form the Sadistic Trio with Taira.

Hikawa and Chiaki encounter Taira's group during the Osaka mission as Vampires and hunters collide with the yōkai forces.
