Ryou Utagawa

Utagawa is calculating, predatory and intensely power-hungry. He studies opponents without visible alarm and consumes living souls without the moral hesitation shown by other Bounts.

His service to Kariya is opportunistic. Utagawa believes he can steal the leader’s authority and assumes his deception has gone unnoticed.

Fried is sealed in Utagawa’s pocket watch and chain. Released as a golden snake, she can become a whip, sword or defensive coil and produce serpents from nearby inanimate matter.

The snakes bind, bite and poison targets, while Fried’s shifting body allows Utagawa to alternate between attack and defense. His consumption of living souls further strengthens his Bount physiology.

Utagawa helps pursue Yoshino and battles Ichigo’s group while maintaining the appearance of loyalty to Kariya. He eventually steals what he believes is the crest controlling the Bounts’ Dolls.

Kariya reveals that he anticipated the betrayal and allowed Utagawa to take the crest as a trap. Maki Ichinose executes Utagawa for treason, and his body turns to dust.

Jin Kariya is Utagawa’s leader and intended target for usurpation. Fried is his Doll and principal weapon.

Yoshino Souma opposes Utagawa’s consumption of Humans. Maki Ichinose kills him after Kariya exposes his betrayal.
