Personality
Personality
Gaou is intimidating, direct and obsessed with finding strength comparable to his own. He has little interest in opponents who avoid challenging him, but readily respects people who stand against him despite knowing how dangerous the confrontation will be.
He is more intelligent than his appearance suggests. Gaou can recognize deception, analyze physical technique and distinguish between uncontrolled violence and deliberate application of strength.
He also respects the rules of football. For all his brutality, he does not simply attack players without regard for whether they legally possess the ball, and his strongest confrontations arise within the structure of competition.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Gaou is one of the physically strongest players in Japanese high-school football. His bench press exceeds 200 kg, while his enormous frame and explosive force allow him to overpower elite linemen and collapse protection around quarterbacks.
His strength extends beyond conventional football measurements. He can damage heavy objects and requires a titanium-alloy mouthpiece because ordinary ones cannot withstand his jaw strength.
Gaou's greatest football weapon is straightforward pressure. He does not need elaborate deception when his initial collision can drive blockers backward or remove them from the play entirely.
Story Role
Story Role
Gaou becomes the centerpiece of Marco's attempt to construct a team powerful enough to challenge Teikoku. Hakushuu's tournament games quickly establish a frightening pattern: opposing offensive lines struggle to prevent him from reaching their quarterbacks.
His interest increasingly focuses on Kurita, one of the few Japanese linemen with enough raw power to offer the contest Gaou has spent his life seeking.
During the Kanto final, Gaou breaks Hiruma's throwing arm and initially overwhelms Kurita psychologically as well as physically. Kurita eventually recovers and defeats him in their decisive confrontation, drawing out power through years of training and his determination to protect his teammates rather than Gaou's preferred "killing intent."
Relationships
Relationships
Reiji Maruko recruits Gaou by promising that strong football teams will provide opponents worthy of his power. Gaou becomes the physical foundation of Reiji Maruko's Hakushuu strategy.
Ryokan Kurita is the opponent Gaou most wants to test. [Their Kanto final confrontation eventually gives Rikiya Gaou the direct contest of strength he had been seeking.](#spoiler)
Youichi Hiruma earns Gaou's respect by refusing to retreat from him despite the enormous physical danger.
Hiromi Kisaragi idolizes Gaou's strength and treats him as the embodiment of the physical power he personally lacks.
