Ran'Tao

Ran'Tao is remorseful, compassionate and determined to accept responsibility for the Bounts. After Soul Society treats them as failed experiments, she defies official policy and tries to provide the survivors with protection.

Her guilt persists for centuries. Although physically exhausted by the measures preserving her youth, she chooses to confront Kariya and prevent the destruction threatened by her research.

Ran'Tao is an accomplished scientist and Kidō practitioner. Her equipment includes a Kidō firearm, an amulet that restores sealed spiritual power, medical technology and a device capable of suppressing a Bount’s absorption of environmental reishi.

Soul Society seals most of her power after her exile. She also maintains a youthful body through rejuvenation treatments that require unusually long periods of sleep. No named Zanpakutō release or Bankai is shown.

A Jōkaishō explosion during Ran'Tao’s immortality research disrupts souls in the cycle of reincarnation and produces the Bounts. When those artificial Humans are persecuted, Ran'Tao establishes a sanctuary and promises to secure Soul Society’s protection.

Central 46 instead orders the Bounts exterminated and strips Ran'Tao of her position and power. Centuries later, she tells Ichigo’s group the truth, helps oppose Kariya and survives the conflict. She subsequently treats the wounded Go Koga, the final surviving Bount.

Yoshino Souma resembles Ran'Tao because Ran'Tao’s soul served as an apparent template during the Bount experiment. Ran'Tao did not intentionally create Yoshino as a personal copy.

Jin Kariya is the Bount leader whose vengeance she tries to stop. Uryuu Ishida informs her of Yoshino’s death and helps uncover the connection between them.

Go Koga is the wounded Bount Ran'Tao heals after the invasion. Yoruichi Shihouin brings him to her for treatment.
