Owen is pragmatic, humane and comparatively free of the class prejudice common at Midland's court. He openly acknowledges Griffith's achievements and regards his promotion as justified by military results.
He shares Laban's concern for ordinary people and for the kingdom as a whole. Political status matters less to Owen than whether Midland has capable leaders during a crisis.
Owen is also observant. Years after the Hundred-Year War, he recognizes Guts despite the enormous changes in his appearance and circumstances.

Years later, Owen travels to Vritannis and encounters Guts, whom he recognizes as the former captain of the Band of the Hawk's Raiders.
When Charlotte formally appoints Griffith supreme commander of Midland's forces and recognizes his reborn Band of the Hawk as the kingdom's army, Owen supports her decision by reminding the assembled nobles of Griffith's extraordinary record during the Hundred-Year War.
Owen later holds an important military position in Falconia, where he remains part of Midland's reorganized leadership.
