Okugata

Okugata is soft-spoken, courteous and deeply protective of the people in her household. Her restrained demeanor conceals the grief surrounding her daughter's death and Jude's failed attempt to reverse it.

She participates in maintaining a deception because she and the household believe the truth would destroy the already traumatized Jude. The choice is compassionate in intention even though it leaves him living under a false understanding of what happened.

Okugata possesses no established alchemical or supernatural abilities.

Her role in The Blind Alchemist is entirely civilian. She manages the household and provides Edward Elric with information about Jude and the human transmutation he performed.

Edward and Alphonse Elric visit the Hamburgang estate after hearing rumors of an alchemist who successfully resurrected a human. Okugata explains that Jude attempted to bring the family's daughter Rosalie back to life and lost his eyesight as the toll.

Edward eventually discovers that the being produced by Jude's transmutation was not Rosalie. The original girl died, and the household subsequently adopted another child, Emi, renamed her Rosalie and allowed the blind Jude to believe his transmutation had succeeded. Okugata confirms the truth after Edward discovers it.

Jude serves the Hamburgang family as an alchemist. Okugata and the rest of the household maintain the illusion that his human transmutation succeeded because they want him to live peacefully after losing his eyesight.

Rosalie is the name of Okugata's daughter. The original Rosalie died, while the girl Jude later knows by that name is an adopted child originally named Emi.

Meissner is the Hamburgang household's butler and shares Okugata's knowledge of the truth surrounding Jude.

Edward Elric visits the estate to investigate Jude's supposed successful human transmutation and eventually learns the secret the household has been preserving.

Alphonse Elric accompanies Edward during the investigation.
