Personality
Personality
Mitsuhiko is intelligent, inquisitive, polite, and more cautious than Genta and Ayumi Yoshida. He enjoys reading scientific books and often introduces factual explanations when the Detective Boys encounter something unfamiliar. Although still unmistakably a child, his vocabulary and general knowledge are advanced for his age.
He initially displays skepticism toward supernatural explanations, preferring rational possibilities even when frightened. Repeated investigations alongside Conan strengthen this habit of looking for evidence rather than accepting appearances.
Mitsuhiko can also be sensitive and insecure. He develops romantic feelings for both Ayumi and Ai Haibara, and his admiration for Haibara in particular sometimes leaves him uncertain about how to behave around her.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Mitsuhiko has no extraordinary abilities, but he is academically gifted for an elementary-school student. Science is his strongest interest, and he frequently recalls facts about nature, technology, history, or other subjects that become relevant to a case.
His deductive ability is also stronger than that of most children his age. Although he cannot approach Conan or Haibara's adult-level reasoning, Mitsuhiko can independently identify clues and has occasionally reached important conclusions without being guided through every step.
He uses the equipment supplied to the Detective Boys by Hiroshi Agasa, particularly the Detective Boys Badge and Wristwatch Flashlight, during searches and investigations.
Story Role
Story Role
Mitsuhiko becomes involved with Conan shortly after the latter enrolls at Teitan Elementary School. He accompanies Ayumi and Genta into an apparently haunted mansion, where Conan exposes the human crime behind the supposed supernatural activity.
The children later follow a treasure map connected to stolen Italian gold, placing themselves in genuine danger. Their experiences encourage Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko to formalize their amateur investigations as the Detective Boys, with Conan reluctantly becoming the group's central problem-solver.
Mitsuhiko subsequently participates in numerous cases ranging from harmless searches to encounters with murderers and the Black Organization. His growing competence allows him to contribute useful observations rather than functioning only as someone Conan must protect.
Relationships
Relationships
Conan Edogawa is Mitsuhiko's friend and the Detective Boys' most capable investigator. Mitsuhiko admires Conan Edogawa's intelligence without understanding the true source of his advanced knowledge.
Ayumi Yoshida is one of Mitsuhiko's closest friends and an early romantic interest.
Genta Kojima is Mitsuhiko's friend and fellow founding member of the Detective Boys. Mitsuhiko often supplies the caution and reasoning that balance Genta Kojima's impulsiveness.
Ai Haibara becomes another close teammate after transferring into their class. Mitsuhiko develops a strong crush on Ai Haibara and admires her maturity and intelligence.
Asami Tsuburaya is Mitsuhiko's older sister.
Hiroshi Agasa acts as one of the Detective Boys' adult guardians, taking Mitsuhiko and the others on trips and providing their investigative gadgets.
Sumiko Kobayashi is Mitsuhiko's teacher and supports the Detective Boys' activities within reasonable limits.
