Mitani

Mitani receives little individual characterization outside baseball. He functions primarily as a dependable member of Seishuu's regular lineup rather than as the focus of a separate school or personal storyline.

Mitani plays center field, giving him responsibility for the central and often widest-ranging portion of Seishuu's outfield defense.

He bats second in Seishuu's order. That position places him directly behind leadoff hitter Keiichirou Senda and ahead of the club's central power hitters, making his plate appearances part of the team's opportunities to build early scoring situations.

Mitani first belongs to the Seishuu Middle School baseball environment shared with Aoba and several future high-school varsity players.

He later settles into center field for Seishuu High School as its principal lineup takes shape. Mitani remains one of the regular nine during Seishuu's final campaign for the prefectural championship and qualification for Koshien.

Aoba Tsukishima is Mitani's contemporary from Seishuu Middle School and continues practicing around the high-school club.

Yashiro, Hama and Ehara are fellow players who also progress from Seishuu Middle School into the high-school baseball program.

Keiichirou Senda bats immediately before Mitani in Seishuu's regular lineup, while Daiki Nakanishi, Yuuhei Azuma, Osamu Akaishi and Kou Kitamura occupy much of the lineup behind him.
