Hama

Hama receives little individual characterization outside baseball. He is presented primarily as one of the regular players filling out Seishuu's lineup rather than through a separate personal storyline.

His continued participation from middle school into high school nevertheless places him among the players with a sustained commitment to the school's baseball program.

Hama bats and throws right-handed and plays right field. As Seishuu's regular number-nine fielder, he is responsible for one of the three outfield positions and bats eighth in the lineup.

Unlike the team's most prominent players, Hama is not given a signature batting specialty or unusual athletic trait. His value comes from functioning as a regular member of the complete nine-player unit.

Hama is initially connected to Aoba through Seishuu Middle School's baseball club. Aoba participates in practice games with the boys and later captains the middle-school group in practice despite being unable to enter official boys' games.

Hama subsequently becomes Seishuu High School's regular right fielder. He remains in the lineup during the team's decisive final run toward the prefectural championship and Koshien.

Aoba Tsukishima is Hama's contemporary and plays alongside him in the Seishuu Middle School baseball environment.

Mitani, Yashiro and Ehara also progress from Seishuu Middle School into the high-school baseball program.

Kou Kitamura, Osamu Akaishi, Yuuhei Azuma, Daiki Nakanishi and Keiichirou Senda become Hama's regular teammates in Seishuu's varsity lineup.
