Mezou Shouji

Mezou is calm, selfless, protective, and unusually difficult to provoke. He accepts insults about his appearance with a patience developed through years of experiencing much worse treatment.

His tolerance is not passivity. Mezou strongly opposes discrimination against heteromorphs, but he believes lasting change requires more than retaliatory violence. He refuses to let cruelty against him become justification for cruelty toward others.

His decision to wear a mask also reflects his sensitivity toward other people. After his scarred face frightened a child, he began covering it because he did not want his appearance to cause distress, even though the scars themselves resulted from prejudice directed at him.

Dupli-Arms gives Mezou six large tentacle-like arms. The ends of the extra limbs can generate duplicates of organs and body parts, including hands, eyes, ears, mouths, and enlarged fists.

Duplicated sensory organs are more effective than his originals. Producing several eyes and ears simultaneously turns Mezou into an excellent reconnaissance specialist capable of surveying wide areas.

His arms also possess enormous physical strength. Octoblow creates multiple fists for rapid close-range attacks, while Octospansion produces an enlarged limb for a heavier strike. He can also use the broad membranes between his arms to assist aerial movement.

Mezou repeatedly serves as a protector during Class 1-A's dangerous encounters. During the forest training camp attack, he helps Fumikage Tokoyami while Dark Shadow becomes uncontrollable and loses one of his duplicated limbs without holding any resentment toward his classmate.

His heteromorph background becomes increasingly important as the wider social divisions within hero society become visible.

During the Final War, Mezou joins the defense of Central Hospital, where a massive group of heteromorph civilians and villains has been mobilized behind Spinner. Mezou reveals the discrimination and physical violence he endured growing up and argues that destroying the hospital will only create more hatred.

His appeal helps fracture the mob's momentum, while his later career becomes strongly associated with addressing discrimination against heteromorphic Quirk users.

Fumikage Tokoyami is one of Mezou's closest battlefield partners. Mezou protects him during Dark Shadow's rampage and never blames him for injuries suffered in the process.

Kouji Kouda fights alongside Mezou during the confrontation at Central Hospital and shares his concern for heteromorph discrimination.

Minoru Mineta has occasionally made insensitive comments about Mezou's appearance but later apologizes after learning about his past. Mezou assures him that he does not hold a grudge.

Spinner becomes Mezou's ideological and physical opponent during the Central Hospital uprising, where both represent very different responses to discrimination against heteromorphs.

Izuku Midoriya and the rest of Class 1-A become the community in which Mezou experiences acceptance very different from his childhood.
