Fumikage Tokoyami

Tokoyami is serious, composed, introspective, and deliberately dramatic. His speech and personal aesthetic draw heavily on imagery involving darkness, the occult, and the night.

Despite appearing aloof, he works well with classmates and behaves honorably in competition. He is capable of acknowledging stronger opponents without resentment and takes training seriously.

Tokoyami also treats Dark Shadow as a partner rather than a simple tool. Because the entity possesses its own personality and emotions, mastering the Quirk requires mutual control rather than merely increasing raw power.

Dark Shadow manifests a sentient shadow-like entity from Tokoyami's body. It can attack, defend, carry objects, extend over substantial distances, and protect Tokoyami from incoming attacks.

Light directly affects its balance of power and control. Bright environments weaken Dark Shadow but make it easier to command, while darkness dramatically strengthens it and can make the entity increasingly aggressive.

Under Hawks' mentorship, Tokoyami learns to use Dark Shadow for mobility. Black Fallen Angel allows Dark Shadow to carry his body through the air, while techniques such as Black Ankh integrate the entity around Tokoyami's body for close-range combat.

During the final war, Tokoyami unleashes an enormous manifestation of Dark Shadow under suitably dark conditions, producing enough power to meaningfully threaten All For One.

Tokoyami performs strongly during the U.A. Sports Festival, where Dark Shadow's versatility carries him deep into the tournament before its weakness to Katsuki Bakugou's light-producing explosions becomes decisive.

At the forest training camp, the darkness causes Dark Shadow to become dangerously powerful and uncontrollable. Mezo Shoji and other students help prevent the situation from becoming catastrophic.

Tokoyami later interns under Hawks. Although initially frustrated that the hero seems more interested in intelligence gathering than instruction, he learns aerial movement from observing Hawks and develops greater independence.

During the Paranormal Liberation War, Tokoyami discovers Hawks gravely injured after his confrontation with Dabi and carries his mentor away from the battlefield.

Hawks becomes Tokoyami's principal professional mentor and recognizes his potential as a powerful aerial hero.

Dark Shadow is the sentient manifestation of Tokoyami's Quirk and functions as his constant combat partner.

Mezo Shoji helps Tokoyami during Dark Shadow's loss of control at the forest training camp.

Katsuki Bakugou defeats Tokoyami at the Sports Festival by exploiting Dark Shadow's weakness to light.

Izuku Midoriya and Tokoyami cooperate repeatedly as classmates and battlefield allies.
