Kouji Kouda

Kouji is timid, gentle, compassionate, and initially extremely uncomfortable speaking in front of people. His reluctance to talk is particularly ironic because his Quirk requires his voice to reach animals.

He strongly dislikes violence and prefers roles that involve communication, rescue, or support. His comfort around animals is far greater than his early comfort around human classmates.

U.A. gradually helps Kouji become more assertive. His growth is especially clear when people he cares about are insulted or threatened; he learns to speak forcefully rather than withdrawing, following advice given by his parents during childhood.

Anivoice allows Kouji to speak with animals and issue commands they understand. The ability works across the animal kingdom as long as the target can hear him.

Different species give him different tactical options. Birds provide aerial reconnaissance and mass distractions, while insects can infiltrate small spaces or swarm opponents. Animals can also report information back to him, making the Quirk valuable for searches.

Kouji initially has a severe fear of insects, limiting an obvious branch of his Quirk. He overcomes that fear during the final examinations, allowing him to summon an insect swarm against Present Mic.

During the Final War, the horn-like structures inherited from his mother develop further and allow his Anivoice to reach animals more effectively, including through a telepathic-style connection.

Kouji participates with Class 1-A throughout their U.A. training. During the U.S.J. attack, he is transported into the Downpour Zone with Fumikage Tokoyami.

His practical final examination pairs him with Kyouka Jirou against Present Mic. Kouji must overcome his fear of insects to summon a swarm large enough to incapacitate their teacher.

During the Final War, Kouji joins Mezou Shouji and Present Mic at Central Hospital as a heteromorph mob attempts to free Kurogiri. When an agitator mocks Mezou, Kouji's anger helps trigger a major improvement in his Quirk, and he fights beside Mezou in trying to stop the riot without abandoning the civilians involved.

Kouji's Mother shares Anivoice-related physical traits and encourages her son's compassion while explaining that his horns will develop as he grows.

Kouji's Father is presented as a model for standing up when people mock or mistreat those he cares about.

Kyouka Jirou partners with Kouji during the practical final examination against Present Mic.

Mezou Shouji becomes Kouji's closest ally during the Central Hospital conflict and later in efforts surrounding heteromorph discrimination.

Present Mic serves as Kouji and Kyouka's examination opponent and later fights alongside Kouji at Central Hospital.
