Men Tao

Men is proud, stubborn, impulsive and accustomed to thinking of himself as someone above ordinary people. His arrogance resembles Ren's early personality, while the composed and haughty manner he adopts outside battle recalls Jeanne. Alumi Numbirch nevertheless recognizes that beneath his obstinacy he has a tender heart.

His aggression is constrained by a fundamental principle taught by his parents: he must not kill. That lesson becomes an important test of his character when anger and grief give him reasons to want revenge.

Men is an exceptionally gifted shaman who could already create an Over Soul at seven. His unusual inheritance gives him access to both of his parents' principal spirits: Bason from Ren and Shamash from Jeanne. Alumi describes him as a thoroughbred shaman, while his Furyoku is identified as the strongest among Team Hao's young fighters.

With Bason, Men uses the Basontou and can employ combat forms inherited from the Tao tradition. With Shamash, he uses a spike from Jeanne's Iron Maiden as his medium, producing a giant Shamash Over Soul as well as the torture implements associated with his mother's fighting style.

Men also learns Cloud, enabling him to create spiritual copies, and demonstrates New Trance with Shamash.

Men first appears as an infant in the conclusion of the original Shaman King story, establishing that Ren and Jeanne eventually have a child. Flowers introduces him at seven as a trained shaman and heir to the Tao family.

He becomes one of the young captains assembled for Team Hao in the Flower of Maize. His arrival immediately demonstrates his formidable ability and his difficult temperament.

Later events place enormous pressure on the promise Men made with his parents never to kill. After Jeanne is assassinated, Men wants revenge, but Ren refuses to help him perpetuate the cycle of hatred. Ren ultimately persuades his son to honor their family promise. Men later travels to Funbari Hill to join Team Hao.

Tao Ren is Men's father and one of the strongest influences on his personality and combat style. Men inherits Bason from him as well as the Tao family's expectations.

Iron Maiden Jeanne is Men's mother. He inherits her red eyes, aspects of her demeanor and the Kami-class spirit Shamash.

Bason is one of Men's two principal Guardian Ghosts and originally served his father.

Shamash is Men's other principal spirit and originally belonged to his mother.

Alumi Numbirch recognizes Men's extraordinary potential and works alongside him as part of Team Hao.

Hana Asakura, Yohane Asakura and Gakko Ibuki are Men's fellow young members of Team Hao.
