Matt Rowan

Rowan receives little characterization outside the Chiba International team's tournament appearance. He participates in the group's attempt to unsettle Mizusawa before competition begins.

Once the match starts, he is presented primarily as a regular member of his school's lineup rather than through an individual storyline.

Rowan is a competitive karuta player capable of representing his school at the national high-school championship. He is therefore experienced with the memorization, positioning and reaction skills required in formal team competition.

No individual class rank, signature technique or exceptional sensory ability is established for him.

Rowan appears during Mizusawa's national championship group-stage competition. The Chiba International team's appearance and initial use of English briefly make Mizusawa uncertain about how to approach the encounter.

Taichi Mashima recognizes that the behavior is intended to unsettle them, allowing the team to concentrate on the actual karuta.

Rowan's involvement remains limited to the tournament environment and does not develop into an independent rivalry.
