Masaki Otani

Masaki is characterized primarily as a frightened young child dependent on his parents for protection.

The story does not establish an independent philosophy, combat mentality or detailed background for him. His reactions are those of a child placed in circumstances he cannot reasonably understand.

Masaki has no supernatural abilities or combat training.

Although technically part of the Gantz group, he is not capable of operating as an effective hunter and depends entirely on adults to keep him away from the mission targets.

His vulnerability makes the Otani family's presence particularly disturbing among the otherwise mostly adult and teenage participants.

Masaki enters the Dinosaur Alien mission alongside both parents. When a Raptor Alien begins pursuing the family, his father stays behind while his mother attempts to escape with him.

The Otani family is caught in the extreme violence surrounding the mission, with Masaki remaining dependent on his parents as the inexperienced participants are rapidly overwhelmed by the dinosaurs.

Takashi Otani is Masaki's father and deliberately places himself between his son and a pursuing Raptor Alien.

Haruko Otani is Masaki's mother and attempts to escape with him while her husband holds the creature back.

Kei Kurono is one of the experienced hunters participating in the same Dinosaur Alien mission.
