Masakazu Murai

Murai's interest in military equipment gives him more confidence around weapons than many of the civilians trapped at the mall. His enthusiasm, however, should not be confused with actual military service; he is a hobbyist rather than an established soldier.

He is willing to participate in dangerous supply work rather than remain entirely dependent on other survivors. That makes his practical usefulness greater than his "military geek" image alone might suggest.

Murai operates within the mall's increasingly rigid hierarchy, where access to supplies and participation in dangerous jobs become important measures of a survivor's value.

Murai owns and understands how to use an air gun. Although far less powerful than Hideo Suzuki's shotgun, it gives him familiarity with aiming, handling and weapon maintenance.

His military hobby also gives him knowledge of equipment and terminology that can be useful in the mall's improvised defensive environment.

As a food-procurement member, Murai develops practical experience moving through areas threatened by ZQN. He has no established supernatural abilities or anomalous infection.

Murai is part of the Gotemba outlet community encountered by Hideo, Hiromi Hayakari, Araki and the other survivors.

He becomes one of the people responsible for food procurement, a dangerous task because the mall's usable supplies are located in areas where infected people remain a constant threat.

The mall's apparent security eventually breaks down when the ZQN overwhelm its defenses, turning the carefully organized refuge into another site of mass panic and escape.

Hideo Suzuki enters the mall community carrying a genuine sporting shotgun, a weapon far more powerful than the equipment previously available to survivors such as Murai.

Hiromi Hayakari arrives with Hideo Suzuki and becomes the focus of concern because of her unusual condition.

Araki is another survivor who reaches the Gotemba refuge and becomes part of its wider group.
