Marimo Ebisu

Marimo is energetic, outgoing and dedicated to her family's circus. Performing an inherently dangerous act does not make her reckless; she treats the Human Cannonball routine as a practiced skill and works closely with her father to make the show successful.

She is friendly toward Yahiko almost immediately. His obvious interest in her becomes a source of teasing among his companions, while Marimo responds primarily with warmth and camaraderie.

Her loyalty to her father is especially strong. When Jirokichi is attacked and the circus appears likely to fail, Marimo is frightened but does not abandon the performance or their attempt to preserve the business they built together.

Marimo is an accomplished young acrobat. Her signature Human Cannonball act requires her to climb inside a specially prepared cannon, survive the launch and control her body in flight well enough to pass through or reach a designated target before landing safely.

The performance demonstrates flexibility, coordination, balance and exceptional nerve. She is also a strong runner, keeping pace with Yahiko as the two hurry through town seeking replacement gunpowder for the sabotaged performance.

Marimo has no formal combat style. When violence threatens the circus, she relies primarily on Yahiko and the other members of Kenshin's group, although she ultimately turns her own cannon act into a means of confronting Sumidaya.

Marimo is performing at the Ebisu Circus when Kenshin's group attends the show. Yahiko is immediately impressed by her, but the performance is interrupted when Sumidaya arrives demanding repayment of money he lent Jirokichi to establish the circus.

Sumidaya's campaign escalates from intimidation to sabotage. Jirokichi is attacked and injured, while the circus's stored gunpowder is stolen before an important performance. Yahiko and Marimo rush to obtain more as Kenshin Himura, Kaoru Kamiya and Sanosuke Sagara improvise circus acts to keep the audience entertained.

Sumidaya's performers then attack the circus directly. Kenshin and his companions defeat them, while Marimo performs her Human Cannonball routine and lands on the fleeing Sumidaya. Police arrive and arrest him, allowing the Ebisu Circus to continue operating independently.

Jirokichi Ebisu is Marimo's father and the owner of the Ebisu Circus. She loves him deeply and works alongside him to make their independent circus succeed.

Yahiko Myojin develops an immediate crush on Marimo. She treats him affectionately and appreciates his help when her father and the circus are threatened.

Sobei Sumidaya is Marimo's former employer. He attempts to force Marimo and her father back into his circus through debt and sabotage.

Kenshin Himura, Kaoru Kamiya, Sanosuke Sagara and Megumi Takani help preserve the Ebisu Circus after Jirokichi is injured and the performance is sabotaged.
